Recommendations will be provided for challenges identified relating to anti-oppressive approach. Anti-oppressive approach Anti-oppressive approach is an approach relating to social work practice whose main area of focus is to identify and eliminate, reduce or undermine oppressive practices and discrimination activities on workers. The base of this approach is to challenge racism, sexism, ageism among many issues. These radical, anti-racist, feminist, liberatory and structural frameworks forms the basis of discriminatory practices under which workers occupying positions of power and influence use to oppress clients. This approach seeks to eliminate these practices by making workers engage in critical self-examination process to eliminate inequality (Carniol, 2010). The model is built on various values and principles which include and are not limited to: empowerment; equity; inclusion; and community. It seeks to promote critical analysis of other individual’s feelings, behaviors and conditions hence linking them to public issues or personal troubles. It supports and encourages those oppressed, gather their knowledge and perspectives thereby incorporating them into policies and practice. It informs workers to perceive social work as an institution capable of and responsible of contributing and further initiating change to oppressive social relationships which burden and govern others in society. It therefore recommends embracing of diversity of individuals, various groups and community at large. The approach considers that power and influence should not be the cause or support for inequality as those responsible enjoy privileges. Anti-oppressive approach as a guide in social work place Anti-oppressive approach considers that, those in position of power or influence should be in a position to understand those who they are entitled to protect and lead in right way. Understanding the feelings of everyone greatly helps in determining how accurate they will handle his situation without oppressing him. The social work place hence provides a platform where individuals feel that equality is preserved and that any activity undertaken by those with influence is done with integrity and for the good of all (Carniol, 2010). Experience received should be capable of empowering individuals so that they will go a mile to teach others the importance of embracing diversity. It is a barrier for those seeking privileges for the sake of oppressing others in the society and hence safeguards and promotes inclusion of all in advantages required to be shared by all. Ecological perspective The conceptual framework of ecological perspective is that, individuals live within a sphere of influence. As they live in an environment they are able to influence each other. The ecosystem requires that respect should be accorded to every member of the society as ethics are followed. Providing settings that have a positive influence on individual is considered of uttermost importance. This way, there will be a cohesive interrelationship within the community where no individual feels oppressed or privileged. Anti-oppressive practices consider that individuals are not equal as per social identities they hold hence creation of power and difference in influence.
