United Nations Industrial Organization: A Case Reviewed of United Nations Industrial Organization: A Case Reviewed Introduction: This paper aims to discuss the case of United National Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) which has been involved in spending the revenues on developing industries in regions where the industrial capacity is higher but seemingly there have been very less exploration. The case of UNIDO is very interesting and effective because it is that specialized agency of United Nations which have not just helped the underdeveloped countries to explore their tendencies but also helped agricultural countries to become in contact with industrial countries for importing purpose. Background: The operations being managed in the headquarters in Austria are basically so complex that avid implementation and planning has been undertaken over the years. There is a list of awards gained by the companies which makes it evident that UNIDO as a non-governmental organization have played its role in achieving industrial efficiency in different parts of the world (Luken and Romapaey 2007). The main motif of UNIDO in different cases and projects have been similar i.e. is to sustain economic growth in such a manner that it regulates equal acceleration for all states. It should be noted that the economic stability is required in different regions of the world because it will help the countries to get lowered rates of the products and revenue will be generated for all regions in an equal manner (Cheng 1999). Goals and Achievements: The case of UNIDO is also important because it has some underlying goals including the reduction of poverty. UNIDO also believes that there are many institutions that are already providing free aid to many underdeveloped countries but this cannot be continued for a longer period of time. UNIDO insists that the money as aid must be used in such a manner that it is used in healthy activities and productive manner (OECD 2003). Over the years, it has been noted that trade has also been affected by the political relations between the states. UNIDO has been operating for such countries which are not in diplomatic relations with others but need the aid or import for meeting its overall needs. UNIDO provides a bridge for such countries with others so that they can achieve their goal. By maintaining a bridge between countries of trade, UNIDO is basically helping the nations to increase the volume of trade which in return helps global markets (Newman 2007). Another underlying goal of UNIDO is to allow states to contribute in maintaining environment. It has been noted that a great deal of natural hazard have been caused by the change in environment. Industries have contributed to the climate change by large thus I becomes important for the industries to bring positive change (Newman 2007). UNIDO has basically helped different industrial countries to join in hands for the purpose of investing in projects which could benefit the environment. Technological innovation is obviously needed in this regard which in return needs a great deal of investment. Thus, UNIDO has special assignments to allocate energy plans and environmental safety plans to make it easier for the industries to play a vital role in saving earth (Browne 2012). These goals cannot be achieved until or unless the national development commission is not review. The plans have been submitted with the help of different declarations and business planning. The motive of the organization is to sustain relationship by employment. The current projects of UNIDO are not just limited to the green industry but to provide labor opportunities to different states so that there is a relative reduction in poverty all around the world. As per the working of UNIDO, they have claimed that if the private sector plays their part in their goals then more opportunities are expected (UNIDO 2012). The results of the ongoing planning of UNIDO for most developing countries is that if the states are ready to maintain their industrial capacity then there is a clear indication of progress thoroughly. It has been noted by the reporting department of UNIDO that there is a constant need of maintenance in most of the developing countries. There industries need to maintain their products in such a manner that they are able to comply with the international standards. It is necessary because due to the globalization, it has become almost impossible to operate without competitive advantage. It is the remarkable achievement of UNIDO that they have marked countries as industrially potential or maintenance needed areas. The case has also shown that it was not easier for UNIDO to mark more than 300 states and territories for their industrial capacity (Greenwood 2005). Case of Green Industry: More recently, the current projects of UNIDO has become heavily influenced by the green industry idea. The organization is not just focusing t implement newer possible plans for the developing countries and their industries but also implement different green ideas to the industry. Seemingly the attempts of UNIDO have been criticized because they suggested the idea of green energy and green industry so that lesser consumption takes place for maintaining climate change. But it should be noted that such an attempt is relevant to the goals of UNIDO because industries are greatest producers of luxury and other retail producers. These industries need to implement the green energy strategy so that they are able to control the pollutants in the environment (Browne 2012). UNIDO has taken the initiative of green industry by carefully looking in the matter of waste production by factories. Notably, there has been an ongoing debate regarding the factories producing waste in the environment. It is for this reason that the industries have been constantly criticize for ruining the environment and affecting climate change. The main argument that has been noted by the reports of UNIDO was the increased revenue building by economic growth and lesser attention being given to the environmental hazards being caused by the consumption and production (Luken and Romapaey 2007). The task of UNIDO is not just limited to spread information regarding the green energy but to provide services which can help industries easily shift to the green activities. As a matter of fact, UNIDO is basically leading in the sustainability of green energy. UNIDO being the specialized agency of the United Nations continues to mark itself as a responsible industrialization sustainer. Various aspects of industrialization are under the focus of UNIDO making the agency to become a part of industries research and development department (Browne 2012). Provision of consultation has been one critical aspect in the industrialization in initial stages. Without any prior planning for futuristic approach of industries, a number of states undertaken their industrial operations. It was for this reason that there are many examples of industries which have failed to provide sustained economic growth. It is due to their reason that special models and frameworks have been set in order to help industries comply with one measureabel and international standards. There are models according to which countries have to gain knowledge regarding petrochemical. Without any understanding of such areas, countries will continue to fail in terms of production. The UNIDO has also marked some of the legal principles according to which countries have to undergo several frameworks and planning. Case of Business Ventures: Also to note is the fact that UNIDO has been involved in setting up business ventures between international companies so they can conduct franchising with mutual collaboration. However, back then it was being noted that UNIDO was undergoing a great deal of crisis as the workforce was not able to maintain communication with different countries due to barriers of diplomatic communication. But with a gradual pace, UNIDO overcame its weaknesses and became strengthened once again. By the time UNIDO reached to its gross projects, it was named as the sixth best agency of United Nations. UNIDO, after receiving this appreciation, started on with its focus to the corporate social responsibility (CSR). With the help of continuous research in the working environment, it was suggested by UNIDO that human rights were being considered as central to the working and labor by the industry (Luken and Romapaey 2007). The stress is also being put on the labor in the supply chain. This notes that the companies may be under severe pressure for maintain its policies for the labor union, environmental hazard etc. But this pressure is again a factor which is more likely to help organizations to implement economic growth with careful consideration corporate social responsibility (OECD 2003). Corporate social responsibility has thus become a very important aspect in the industrialization. The developing countries of the world have now complied with the international standards. However, developed countries had to put an effort for the implementation of CSR in their system of operation. Conclusion: Through the above analysis of the achievements and focus of UNIDO, it can be said that United Nations have undertaken a very imperative set towards reducing poverty. The different areas of operations of UNIDO have also resulted in joint ventures allowing companies to operate in similar markets without any risk of loosing the revenue or operational efficiency. It can also be said that the UNIDO have helped the industries realize their duty towards their environment. Prior to the initiation of the UNIDO program, there were some of the green energy ideas which were prevailing in the industrial innovation sector but there was no exact case where the implementation was being noted. It is for this reason that UNIDO is given credit for spreading the message of green energy. The collaboration of different developing and developed states of the world is sure to help UNIDO reach its final goal to continue to save environment and affect climate change in a better spot. Also, UNIDO’s task of planning and evaluating the possible economic opportunities for the developing countries have been very influential in sustaining diplomatic relations between the states. The employment opportunities have seemingly gained a lot of boom with the help of UNIDO’s operation all around the world. In a nut shell, it can be said that UNIDO being the non-governmental organization has helped many countries evaluate their industrial efficiency.
