Information and technology helps us create a process and store information (Martin 1995, p 33). The argument is that information technology is of utmost importance in dealing with environmental information. However, debate continues on basic concerns like Information and technology consume a lot of energy to run and creation of enormous electronic junk, which most is toxic and what government is doing on ecology regarding this. Information and technology, has brought fundamental changes which take time at inception.
This makes it hard to hard to analyze and conclude their impact. For instance, with the development of instruments of mass destruction there has been an increased concern for their overall effects on the ecology. The weapons developed not only cause a threat to the global security and politics but also has led to ecological degradation. Most accidents; nuclear, biological or chemical, contribute to global pollution as they are transported by ocean currents. As a result of environmental contamination by the Soviet Union, a Norwegian NGO, the Bellona Foundation, started a worldwide campaign from the Kola Peninsula.
It published two reports: Sources of Radioactive Contamination in "Murmansk and Arkhangel’sk Counties", and "The Russian Northern Fleet: Sources of Radioactive Contamination". It is believed that they were not published only due to the concern for the environment but due to interest of Norway. On the Northern Fleet’s, this almost led to the political crisis in that region. This is just one example among the many which start on the environmental grounds but end up in international security and diplomacy.
Alexandr Nikitin, a co-author of Volume II, was arrested by Russia. During his case, it became evident how international security and diplomacy could be caused by one environmental organization ventures. The two crucial lessons that can be learnt from this encounter by environmental organizations. It is so dangerous to work on issues of national security and the environment. Environmentalists should not concentrate on environmental policy alone, but also, they should enhance broader relationships even in politics.
Without change, in operational ways and protection of the environment at one time we may end up living in the cold. Vital ocean exploitation and the use of space resources as well as information on their impact on national security should be made public. Investing in improvement of technology coupled with innovation and management skills should be done at a faster rate that will outpace the population growth. This applies both to agriculture and other industries in developing countries (Anderson, 1990).
Reduced investment on conservation is of substantial risk as it will lead to ecological instability. For instance, in Machakos district, arable land has been under constant decline due to desertification and there has been increased need for land conservation. With efforts to build terraces in some parts of Machakos, this has led to the increase in production and reduced the rate of land degradation. Most of the funds directed for conservation purposes are from the government but to a large extent the farmers contribute a lot.
With a constant increase in population of people and continued diminishing of arable land, proper measure should be taken to ensure that all people access food.
