The U.S.A War with Iran - Research Paper Example

Should the U.S.A go to war with Iran to keep it from acquiring nuclear weapons? Governments of many countries are facing urgent challenges because of the presence of nuclear weapons in them. Terrorism incidents, that have been happening in the world, especially in the United States, like the 9/11 terrorist act and racist attacks, have raised much concern about the presence of nuclear weapons in some countries. The U.S. has been taking actions against many countries, including Iraq and Afghanistan, to stop militancy and terrorism. The U.S. is also concerned about the nuclear state of Iran, as well as determining to go into war with Iran on this basis. This paper tends to oppose this decision and explains why the U.S. should not go into war with Iran to stop it from acquiring nuclear weapons. Let’s first discuss why Iran is disliked among the Western nations. Iran has already been seeing tense relationship with the U.S. and its allies, since the Iranian Revolution that came about in the late 1970s. The threat to Iran’s solidarity increased when President Bush declared it as part of “Axis of Evil” (“Iran War”, para.1). This risk did not decrease with the election bringing Barrack Obama in presidency. The notion that has further triggered the decision of war with Iran is Iran’s quest in nuclear technology. According to the U.S., the fact that Iran is acquiring nuclear weapons will be a threat to world’s peace. Even the allies of the U.S. - England, Germany, and France, are worried about this nuclear state of Iran. Moreover, Israel has also a long prevailed hate relationship with the Muslim world. This hatred grew when the President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, gave some anti-Semitic statements declaring that Israel should not be present on the face of the Earth. This situation increased Israel’s worry that Iran might be acquiring nuclear weapons to destroy Israel, which being one of the U.S.’s allies, is supporting the U.S.’s decision to enter a war with Iran. This introduction explained why the U.S. decides to enter into war with Iraq, but now let’s discuss why this is a bad strategy. First of all, it is a matter of peace. Entering into war will disrupt the peace, not only of Iran but also of the U.S. who has already lost the lives of many of soldiers in military actions against Iraq and Afghanistan. Nouraee (para.10) states that Americans will never tolerate if the correct number of casualties of American soldiers in the war is revealed to them. War will only increase hatred and will encourage the residents of the attacked country to develop rebellious feelings toward the U.S. This will not help to decrease terrorist attacks, but will increase violence and radical hostility. It will only turn it into a global hate war. Hence, war on terror in Iran is not a good strategy, because the U.S. has already been suffering from financial burden because of heavy budgets being assigned to war on terror. The U.S. will never want to weaken its economy further. Terrorism is still increasing. Hence, we cannot relate the war on terror to increase or decrease in terrorism. War will only raise turbulence, hatred, rebellion, violence, as well as even more terrorist attacks in future. Also, war means destruction. War kills many innocent people along side terrorists. Little children, frail women, and old people get killed for no reason. Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan killed many innocent lives. The U.S. has always been a liberal country, as well as has always talked about the rights of children, men, women, old people, and even animals. If the U.S. enters into a war with Iran, it will be a huge threat to the liberal reputation for it. The war on terror must come to halt because it kills innocent citizens of the attacked country. Cline (para.1) writes that: One of the most common antiwar arguments is the fact that wars result in the deaths of innocent people. This objection accepts that a state may have a vested interest in pursuing attackers and even killing them, but points out that the justice involved with such actions is quickly offset when innocent lives are put at risk or even lost. This deontological position argues that genuine justice requires that we preserve the lives of the innocent: terror is not a moral response to terror and killing innocent people is not a moral response to the deaths of innocent people. Moreover, war on Iraq will strengthen the hatred between two religions. This fact cannot be denied that since the U.S. has attacked Muslim countries in the past, because of the doubted presence of Osama-Bin-Ladin, and since Iran is also a Muslim country, hence, war on terror with Iran will only increase detestation among Muslims and Christians, or more specifically, among Islam and Christianity. Human beings, no matter what religion they belong to, have been taught in every religion and testament to respect and love each other, not on the basis of cast, color, creed, language, and religion, but on the basis of humanity. War on terror that the U.S. initiated has been called, at many times, Muslim-Christian rioting. So, we cannot stop the mentioning of religions in this sense. Hence, war on Iraq will only initiate abhorrence among humans and this will lead to increased incidents of terrorism and violence among nations. Glaser (para.1) writes in his article that the “military and intelligence communities” in the U.S. have started realizing the fact that the decision of war with Iraq is irrational and does not have sound grounds. Despite the “hysterical political debate in the support of this war”, there is much protest coming from the American citizens and intelligence communities to stop or delay the war. There is also a mixed opinion on whether Iran is really interested in nuclear enrichment program or not. It is not logical that a war should be started just on a doubt that Iran will, at some point in time, start its nuclear enrichment activities. And even if Iran does have nuclear weapons, this makes the war even more lethal because the moment it is attacked, it will reconstitute its nuclear weapons and will strike back. So, a better strategy is to enter into diplomatic relations with Iran which is based upon discussion and round table conferences, than to strive for a nuclear weapons-free zone. No country will start a war just because it has acquired nuclear weapons. Iran has also been making efforts to gain confidence from the Western countries, for example by signing “a Turkish-Brazilian plan in 2010 to trade about half of Iran’s low-enriched uranium for radioactive isotopes needed for medical research” (Parry, para.8). Even these efforts by Iran have been blocked “by neocons in Congress and their allies in the Obama administration, with the support of key the U.S. media outlets, like the Washington Post and New York Times.” The bottom-line is that, it is not a wise strategy to enter into a war with Iran just because of suspicion that Iran is acquiring nuclear weapons. Previous wars on terror that the U.S. has conducted have resulted in a lot of innocent casualties, so it is not wise to continue the war in another country. This will only increase hatred and rebellion, as well as lead to abhorrence between religions. Previous wars have also weighed heavily on the U.S. economy, because heavy budgets had been assigned for the conduction of wars. The number of the U.S. soldiers’ casualties is also high in these wars. Americans would never tolerate another war that threats the lives of American soldiers when terrorism is still increasing. Better strategy is to foster discussions with Iran to clarify its nuclear status, instead of conducting war.
