The unique aspect about this “war,” is the fact that it was not physically fought. It only entailed highly devised techniques, to ensure that each antagonistic block seemed mightier than the other did (Ellis, 27). The sole reason as to why the war did not get physical was the fact that both of these antagonists possessed nuclear weapons that would mean a massive destruction of the world, if the war actually became physical. The techniques applied in fighting this war includes propaganda, the formation of military coalitions, the creation of more nuclear armaments, competition to win more allies and an attempt to appeal to the nations that were neutral towards the allied support (Ellis, 27).

The role of Media in wars started long time ago. Media was applied to play a supportive role dating back the First World War. Well illustrated, is how the movement against the Cuban Dictator Batista applied the media technique to support their course in ousting him (Ellis, 42). Ernesto che Guevara is a famous symbol of the cold war. Born in Argentina, his attitude against capitalism, which he believed created inequality was shaped by his visits to Latin America, when he was a student undertaking medicine.

This shaped his ideological support for communism, that saw him join the Cuban revolution war to oust dictatorship and establish communism. The media played a big role in shaping his fame, with the Time magazine naming publishing him as one of the most influential personalities of the 20th century. The media still declared one of his photographs as the most famous in the world (Ellis, 56). It is in Mexico, working as a doctor that he met the Castrol’s and other exiled Cubans who seemed to support his idea of anti-capitalism advocated by the US.

He joined their revolutionary movement and trained as an army personality. During the struggle, he realized the role of media in war and established a Newspaper that would spread their ideals. It is this realization that made him help establish the Rebel Radio (Ellis, 96) in 1958 that communicated their ideas to the Cuban people on the need to for the people to support the rebels. His role in the cold war was his participation in Bolivian war, where the Soviet Union was supporting the Bolivian rebels and the US was supporting the Bolivian government.

This was a power struggle between the antagonist allies of the US and the Soviet Union, characteristic of the Cold war. He was an expert and perfect guerilla war fighter and trainer, having learnt these skills during the Cuban revolution (Ellis, 112). He was later executed in cold blood under the hands of the Bolivian soldiers after he was captured. He had represented the Cuban government in many occasions and countries as a diplomat, all this time condemning the inequality associated with the capitalist ideology.

Long after his death, his legacy still leaves on, as a multi-tasking heroic personality.
