Introduction Kinesiology is the study of the movement. Applied kineisology is a therapy which is an alternative medicine treatment for bodily function problems. It is a discipline designed for students who intent to work in the area of fitness, pre – physical therapy, athletic administration and other physical activity field. The degree requirement needs disciplinary knowledge in anatomical, bio mechanical and neurological aspects of physical activity. According to ( staff) “Kinesiology colleges will award their graduating students with some kind of kinesiology degree, like a Bachelor of Kinesiology or a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, upon graduation”. The students should be able to explore how physical activity connects with human being and should be proficient in science. The bachelor degree in Kinesiology is designed to train the students to enter different fields associate with exercise, sports another allied health services. Students who graduate in this discipline often get admitted to professional exercise science program .The bachelor in kinesiology is a comprehensive study which is science based degree program focused around the physical , biological and social science connected to the study of human movement and physical activity. The coursework of the study includes content on human anatomy, physiology, exercise physiology, movement science, sociology, and sport and exercise psychology. The study prepares exceptional academic preparation for students who wants profession study in bio mechanics, exercise rehabilitation, motor performance, nursing, occupation therapy, sports management and sport sociology. The degree in kinesiology has lot of opportunities and is a discipline which has good demand among students. Kinesiology is a branch of study that comprises of elements from various disciplines like physiology, psychology, anatomy, and more. The students of kinesiology can find opportunities in fields like health and fitness, health clinics and therapy centers. Attending a Kinesiology college is not necessarily a requirement for a career in kinesiology. However it depends on the career path a person hoping to pursue. For example, if a person is planning to pursue a career in fitness field as trainer or physical trainer an important requirement to have certification in the field. These need some knowledge in kinesiology but not a need to attend a degree program. A person who wants to work exclusively in kinesiology field needs to take up degree program in kinesiology. A massage therapist is a profession one would require degree from kinesiology. The admission to the degree program has many requirements. The admission is based on academic performance and other accomplishments. This includes personal statements, demonstrated leadership skills, sport skill, work experience, significant award and achievement and reference or contacts. Apart from this the student should prove to have proficiency in English language. All need to have secondary school education and must have specialized in science. Requirements Personal statement Personal statement is a primary requirement for admission in degree program for kinesiology. Personal statement is a vital part of any university admission process. The personal statement is a means by which an applicant can demonstrate the capabilities to the college or university. The competitive nature of the course requires a personal statement for the academics to analyze the potential of the student. When there are many applicants personal statements are a corner stone for choosing a student. It gives an opportunity for the college authority to hear your voice. As per ( Bullock) “For courses that don’t interview, the personal statement is your only chance to speak directly to the admissions tutor and demonstrate your ability and interest in the subject”. An applicant can portray their passion and interest in a certain subject with the help of personal statement. The personal statement allows the college authorities to know the reason why an applicant wants to pursue the course? What is the aim of the applicant by completing the course? How he will be able to contribute to the society? The special interest of the applicant, a brief overview of his family and other achievements can be explained in a personal statement. The applicant can also prove his aptitude and skill with the help of personal statement. The efficiency of a personal statement is the criteria for the applicant to win an admission in the specific degree. The quality of the personal statement need to be higher if the university for which the applicant applies is famous or recognized. The genuineness and passion of the applicant is an important element required in a personal statement. Skills and abilities In any discipline the applicant need to prove their skill and abilities to get admitted to a degree program. The skills of an applicant can range from communication skill, leadership skill, language skill and intellectual skills. The students applying for the degree might have various skills and elaborating on one’s skills is the best way to put one’s chance ahead.(As per Cornwell)“Every area of your life can provide evidence ofyour skills and potential. Your academic life, of course, but don’t forget your leisure activities, work experience, travel, voluntary activities and even your role in your family”. The applicants can illustrate their various skills to occupy a position in a college or university to study kinesiology. Other abilities are also an attraction to get admission. A student must possess some abilities which are unique to complete academics with succession. These abilities must be parallel with education and should convince the academic authorities to select the applicant. These abilities are problem solving, analytical ability, logic and reasoning ability and cognitive ability. These abilities prove too helpful in conducting research, mathematical calculation and other scientific studies. Other abilities like synthesizing, integrating informative abilities can make an applicant more successful to get admission in degree. Goof judgmental ability, responsibility, ethical standards are all abilities needed for an applicant. Nowadays, the education world is highly competitive and universities with high recognition receive many applications, so it is needed for the students to be efficient with their presentation of skills and abilities. Sports skill and Work experience The participation of an applicant for Kinesiology degree is a highlight as it illustrates an applicants potential as adperson. Kinesiology is a study which is highly related to physical education and an applicant with sports skill has more benefits in studying kinesiology than a normal applicant. Applicant who has sport skill is more active, hard working, physically fit and ahs more knowledge in physical education. Kinesiology teaches students about various aspects of football, basket ball, volley ball, base ball and other sports. So being a player in any of these fields is an attraction to earn a place in the degree. Work experience is a feather in the crown of the applicant as it enhances the personality and value of the applicant. Any academic authority will screen the applicant according to the work experience they posses. A work experience can be short or long one or in government or nonprofit organization but it counts a lot. As per( student room)“Some people think of "work experience" as just meaning those one or two week placements you get at school, but really any form of work you do before you start your career counts. It can be either voluntary or paid”. An applicant with work experience has more confidence, knowledge and skill which make him an ideal student of kinesiology degree. Work experience also makes a student more dedicated to his studies. Significant achievement and references Significant achievement can be anything which is related to studies, arts or literature. If a person has skills of writing, singing or playing musical instruments it can add on to the personality of the applicant. The skills and talents of the applicant make him potential students. It gives an idea to the academic authorities that the applicant in creative and energetic. Other achievements can be excellence in studies which can be great benefit in acquiring degree admission. Any achievement can show the college or university authorities the talent, skill and hard work of the applicant. Reference or contact list is also a requirement for a degree program. The main aim of asking for reference is to confirm he genuineness of the applicant. This can be often the teachers, employers or other authorities. This can be in the form of letter of recommendation. According to (Wolf) “Letters of recommendation from counselors, teachers, and outside people are subjective factors that can add weight to your application”. The admission requirements for Kinesiology degree is not an easy affair. The applicants need to be more serious in application process as it projects the skill, attitude and potential of a student. Universities and colleges are highly detrimental in selecting a student as they promote the recognition of their institution. A degree in kinesiology demands a personal statement, educational skills, work experience and letter of recommendation to ensure smooth admission. A serious applicant needs to be well prepared to admit into a degree program keeping in mind all these factors.
