Canadian Studies Initially Canadian Health Care System was nothing more than a voluntary which gave medical services to its customers without the involvement of government. Later on when government realized its responsibilities towards social welfare and public health then it started participating in the matters of hospitals and health care delivery system this gave rise to progressive push and regulations. During the time of great depression the Roosevelt and healthcare push became an issue of the federal government in United States. At the same time in Canada; politics were undergoing the creation of diversity among the political groups. The low provincial capacity realization and high responsibilities gave the provinces fiscal capacity. The politicians were not clear about future objectives related to health care, they were not share about what to forgo and what to achieve on the other hand people frequently jumped to the debate of public and private without realizing the fact that the general perception about medical care is not important with respect to how it is delivered.
Currently the Health care system of Canada is facing numerous issues including the accessibility of quality treatment, recommendations by the physicians, research and analysis, early childhood care and development, availability of qualified and experienced nurses, prevention from different diseases, redistribution of risk and income, lack of medical homes and disparities. All these issues are needed to be addressed so as to develop the overall healthcare system.
Managing and funding Health care system has found to be the most luxurious social program in Canada as it requires extended monetary supply from government hence it can be held responsible for the economic downturn in Canada. Presently the government officials have ensured that they would not cut down the expenses of health care system however if something like this happens in future then it will surely influence the quality and standard of Canadian Health Care system which is highly recommended and acknowledged by the citizens. The Canadian Government is spending $180 billion every year over its healthcare system and medical facilities which clearly reflects that the health care expenses are going beyond even population and inflation rate (Maioni).
Records have indicated that Canadian Health care system is already provided with sufficient funds. Therefore government would have to make sure that these funds are utilized in the best way. If the GDP growth rate remains consistent in the next five years then it would be substantial to cut down the funds of medical services as a consequence the quality and quantity of medical services shall be significantly decreased leading to even worse condition than ever before. To save the country from such a condition of turmoil it is necessary to increase research and development which will be helpful in reducing the unnecessary treatment costs. New health care plans must be made with equal or superior participation of public sector hospitals and equal treatment opportunities should be made certain. Patients must not be put under pressure by the treatment bills as previously it was noticed that patients were being charged more however now law has been passed related to this practice but some physicians are still involved in to this activity which increases burden on both patients and government. The law would have to be enforced by charging the physicians who are involved in billing extra to their customers (Maioni).
In order to make the Canadian Health Care System more effective and efficient we would require strengthening the ongoing primary care reform in the country. To do this it is important to attract and encourage physicians who are working in primary care to participate in the reformation process. This can be done through:
Arrange facilities to educate physicians about the current trends in the healthcare system and changes which are required for development.
Increase benefits and payrolls for individuals who are starting their careers in medicine.
Support and facilitate the primary health care delivery with the help of equipments and increased working staff.
Increasing the reliability and effectiveness of health care delivery procedures will make significant difference in fulfilling patient’s demands and needs.
Harmonizing healthcare systems with education and social welfare will increase the horizon for physicians as they would be able to provide their services in education and other social welfare sectors as well.
Values must be kept out of healthcare system. They should be addressed at the end since health care should be more concentrating about providing better services rather than maintaining value system.
One of the most applicable means of improving the Canadian Health Care System within the next 20 years is to make strategies for increasing government revenues rather than cutting the health care cost in future. This is the most suitable solution to the issue because it will not only bring prosperity to health care system but it will also increase the efficiency of other public and private sectors, unemployment ratio and inflation could also be controlled through increasing the government revenues. The easiest way of increasing government revenues is to impose taxes, in this case also government would have to do the same but with few specifications. Taxes would be imposed on industries and institutions which are earning beyond a certain limit. Charges enforced over the medical professionals for indulging into unethical and illegal medical activities shall be increased which will significantly reduce such practices and will also increase the revenues for the government. The excess government revenues will be then utilized in medical research and development especially in the area of pharmaceuticals; for instance, government can invest in developing generic medicine which is equally effective as normal medicine but it incurs reduced cost hence giving economic release to both government and public. In addition to this money shall be invested in building new public sector hospitals and advancing medical education through facilitating medical professionals and students who want to pursue medical career. Investing money in other businesses such as FMCG’s will also help increase the government revenues in the long run. Finally when the government spending comes under control then patients can be provided with sufficient ease in payments and treatment costs.
