MSDs in Great Britain is seen to affect many people, a situation that has culminated in increased costs associated with the condition and many of the victims have been forced to dig deeper into their pockets. Furthermore, the cost associated with healthcare provision has substantially increased because of increased cases of MSDs (Loughborough University 2007).However, what is a musculoskeletal disorder? MSDs are perceived to constitute numerous injuries that an individual may experience on particular body parts such as the muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, joints, and cartilage or spinal discs (Schultz and Gatchel, 2005).

Many of these injuries, which are described as disorders come as a result of heavy demands generated from work-related activities (Weerdmeester, 2008). Demands for work-related activities are seen to be repetitive in nature; and when this takes place, repetitive stress injuries are likely to occur. Due to this, MSDs has assumed other names such as Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSIs), Cumulative Trauma Disorders, Overuse Injuries, and Repetitive Motion Disorders (Schultz and Gatchel 2005). The issue of MSDs has evolved into a critical issue that negatively affects the health care system in the country and the situation calls for apt measures to manage or contain the problem.

 The health of workers in the UK has become of concern in recent times as more efforts are directed at responding to numerous cases of ill health reported every year in the country. Generally, 25% of the entire workforce in the UK is perceived not to be absolutely healthy enough to perform their functions and activities well. This situation has further affected the productivity level of most companies and business entities in the country.
