HEALTH CARE ORGANIZATIONS Introduction: It is important for and business to reach its product or services to the right person at the right time. The purpose of health care organization in the world is to provide medical facilities to protect or cure people from different diseases and illness. The health care systems in today’s world are highly in demand and extra ordinarily advanced technology for the clinical practices. Due to increasing disease transmittals and pollution there are number of case concerning healthcare like injuries, disabilities, disorders, syndromes and infections etc. US Census Bureau quotes that US spends the most on health care of an individual than any other nation in the world. When speaking for the health care systems in United States, it offers an efficient service and health care for the patients with more effective measures and diagnosis. There are variety of health organization across the country for instance Alice Hyde Medical Center, Memorial Healthcare System etc. Factors affecting the health and healthcare practices: With increasing number of health problems and diseases researchers have gone in viewing the impacts that people have on illness which includes: Physical dimension: it involves the genetic reasons that impact the health and healthcare practices provided to such people. For instance people with history of diabetics in family have higher risk of developing it. Emotional dimension: it basically deals with how the body reacts to certain things, situations or even drugs in case of cure. For instance before a bypass the old man gets a high blood pressure due to the anxiety and nervousness. Environmental dimension: this includes factors involved from the environment for instance the climate, pollution or food. Due to a cold climate people get cold and fever. Intellectual dimension: this involves the cognitive approach or experiences in past which enables the person to have and behave differently in terms of healthcare and practices. For instance a pregnant woman keeps a perfect routine but enjoys drinking cigarettes. Spiritual dimension: it includes the religious beliefs involved in the way a person behaves or responds to illness. Social dimension: this includes factors such as income or marital status to influence a person’s health. For instance high income people are more inclined on getting diseases or ill due to anxiety and health related issues. The doctors, physicians and nurses are vital in the well being of patients in hospitals be it in terms of operating or medication or administration. The overall organization is divided in two departments to ensure quality and efficient service to its patients. The emergency care unit is for the patients that are in a life threatening situation; here they are quickly treated because of the immediate conditions of the patients. Another kind is the Critical Care unit where the nurses take continuous care of its patients through monitoring, therapies or medication. However if there is a case of immediate repair to a serious damage surgeons are required to provide operations to remove or repair the abnormality with the assistance of its staff. The basic duty of the nurses is to provide basic care to all its patients, provide medications and monitor their health progress. They are the essential assistance in hospital to the physicians to carry their work ahead. For instance to prescribe any medicine doctors need an updated medical history of the patient which is provided by the nurses. Whereas the physicians and surgeons are responsible to carry out the entire act that is to diagnose and prescribe and operate. Because of the advancement in technology we are provided with efficient and reliable results which are analyzed by the physicians to diagnose the illness and prescribe its cure. Changing Roles of Physicians It’s a clear cut fact that surgeons and physicians are the true leaders of health care organization with their effective tem of nurses and trainees. In 21st century it’s a need now that physicians serve multitasking of being a good doctor and a good leader who has the capability to take effective decisions and skills like influential communication negotiations and conflict resolving. As quoted before today it’s not only the survival value but the quality of life offered and ensured, patients demand added services and care form the organization. A proposal was made by Susan (O’Hare) to recruit the mid-level providers directly from schools, train and assess them and then make a selection on merit to step in the role of professional. By doing so, cost effectiveness would be applicable and along with enriching their experience they can relieve the on duty surgeons. When looked with the future perspective it seems there will be more patients and fewer physicians and therefore a strategy needs to be defined with future perception to balance between the needs and supply without over spending the budget. Organization Culture To implement all these strategies the organization requires a proper culture to diffuse the change brought by it. The managers need to plan and execute the involvement of community; people can reach the moon to help people. As a matter of fact people come to health care organizations to help people with deeper commitment to mankind. Accepting the values such as ethics and spiritual influence they can turn the tables their way.(Linda E. Swayne). Organizations whose strategies matches with the cultures are likely to go long way then those whose strategies clashes with the culture (Bourgeois). In recent times medical research have rapidly increased, however the findings and diagnosis have found no worth in the literature of medicine. Lomas and Haynnes explain this by telling that a sound research actually promotes health care without any gap. He says there is a fine difference between the knowledge in general and the actual practitioners of health care. It’s been proven by a research conducted that relying on proper diffusion of information to keep health professionals updated is to condemn the failure in the global environment that is changing constantly.(Richard E. Ashcroft). One needs to develop a culture where healthcare professionals can convince research evidences into practices for the betterment of the organization. Development of Technology The strength of the organization lies in what it offers best to its consumers; in the case of health care what patients need is better care efficient procedures with a clean environment. With the development in technology procedures have become more efficient and reliable. Managers therefore need to make a system to achieve the required goals through the strategies plotted on time line because through technology the landscape of entire organization can change amazingly. For instance when inspected the medical issues in Canada among older adults indicate that single system of SOPRANO is an effective application of cost containment.(Mokhtari Mounir) And to the advantage it’s observed Canadians have been very adaptive to technological innovation. Countries which do not welcome the change runs the risk of lacking behind two three generations. Health care today needs to possess a socio technical framework, an example in telehealth which allows patients to treat themselves by out of town physicians. Major parts of different countries are rural not familiar with the technological progress of these organizations. It is recommended to take measure to create awareness among such people. By doing so the organization expands in hypothetical terms and contributes to the mankind. Another insight to development of technology is the concept of electronic health record, like AAL it helps to collect and store the records of patients.(Hillestad) By implementing electronic health less patients errors are expected with accurate diagnosis and results causing less sufferance to the patients. Due to high advancement in technology patients today are actually shopping for the operations and procedures they intend to go through for cure. Electronic health gives an option of providing patients and physicians full detail any time anywhere. Investing technology in today’s rapidly changing global environment is huge because it is always enriched by new updates. However the investments in technology for health care organizations in a necessity and also a cost reduction measure. Because the technology substitutes labor and is quick with response helps the organization to be accurate and responsive to their patients immediately causing them less endurance to go through. Also the storage of records and details are quite handful to the researches made by the physicians and medical students to bring innovation in the field. Technology is requirement for the medical units every instant, be it in surgical procedures, gathering information about the patients or doing a research, the question is how to make it cost effective? Managers need to design a way that technology doesn’t cause much disruption due to its cost of purchasing maintenance and consumption by factors but an behave as an effective measure for the organization because it is the most efficient way to deliver health care. The most important of all is to find the most suitable way of implementing all the changes and factors mentioned above. Managers need a precise framework to make these interpretations into results. Social experiments provide comprehends the requirement of the organization and give the script accordingly. Evaluating, estimating and implementing are the basic levels carried out in social experiments. The results of this help the managers to locate their resources according to the cost effective procedures yielding maximum health from the target budget.(Jerry A. Hausman). Management Skills Required For Successful Health Care Management: Upcoming most successful and stable health care organization will be those who possess managers who perform to theory maximum potential and are ready to develop the innovative and efficient leadership skills. They would require to be quick with their decisions to keep in pace with the competitors in market. Tomorrows technological operations would be a bigger challenge causing greater influence in market. In order to take decisions in health care organization leaders need to understand the clinical perspectives and requirements. Health organizations basically are driven by the patients, people suffering from different diseases and illness. The organization’s basic agenda is to serve the public prior to making revenue and expanding. To improve the standards we need better management for the delivery of medical care and that is heavily dependent on the managers and leaders of the organization, how they strategize an implement to bring an evolution. Health care organizations: Health care organizations are mainly owned by the private sector such as health insurance apart Children’s health insurance program or Tricare. Most of the people get their health insurance through employment, less than 9% actually purchase their health insurance. The health maintaining organization (HMO) is basically is to maintain the enrollee’s of health rather than just treating them. Though HMO’s popularity have been quite hype due to its cost effective care strategies but it has its market share declining because of mismanaged networking. It is a routine for physicians today to have multi health care plans contracted with different organizations which cause a chaotic management which is not affordable in health care organizations. And that is the reason because Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) is now competing well against HMO, it’s a subscription based insurance company which consumes the fee to provide services. However there have been cases where some serious health issues were not treated or diagnosed because the public was unable to pay for its charges. Thus government has introduced a series of programs to take care of its people like: Medicaid, generally covering low income people in certain categories, including children, pregnant women, and the disabled. Medicare, generally covering citizens and residents 65 years and older and the disabled. National Institutes of Health treats patients who enroll in research for free The problem that the government faces continuously is that most of the people do not purchase or can afford the insurances. People are fine to be treated from the charitable money or by bearing it and letting the disease grow. However government is trying their best to provide healthcare facilities to the public by themselves as well as supporting the private sector to do so. The basic purpose of the organization is to protect and provide life extensions to the public. Health care mainly comprises of four major players: patients, nurses, administration and physicians. The patients are the consumers of the service the organization offers, if people don’t get sick the hospitals might run into losses. Basically the patients are the consumers they need to satisfy with efficient and appropriate treatment and services. Patient of today as mentioned before is aware of the changes and advancement happening around him, he spends money on his health and therefore demand a sure short less painful and quick way of treatment. With the latest technologies of lasers and devices their demand is fulfilled to the fullest it can be. Nurses as mentioned before the assistance to the senior authority in their work and for continuous monitoring and caring of its patients by providing them the appropriate prescribed medication and therapies and by updating their medical history. Administration of health care organization like any other organization is responsible for the management and organizing the resources efficiently for the patients. They are responsible to keep the records of their patients for long run for future assistance. The basic service or operation is carried out by the physicians who diagnose and prescribe the cure. Physicians of today have started financing by working at different organizations at a time. Today we have primary physicians who act as a primary immediate assistance to the public for instance gynecologist. By combining all the elements and players it is essential for health organizations to provide good services to the public. They have a clear role in society to fulfill and serve the public with efficient service because what they process is human life. Read More
