Introduction Health is an important factor in every human beings day to day life. As the world improved with invention after invention, the criticality of human health got its due attention. With lot of invention and technologies helping to improve the health sector create a better life for every individual, there are several unknown factors resulting from technological innovations that people tend to be more careless about and in the end succumb their health to the same. (Shih, 2010).Though the improvement of health service has come of ages, thanks to technologies, the same has dealt severe blows to the same human body through other fields. Hence, it can be said that technologies are more of like a double edged sword and unless it is handled with care, it can lead to some disastrous effects on human life.(Rousa, 2010).
Advent of Technologies
Any kind of service that a person needs in his/her day to day life can be easily obtained just from the place they are. The usage of technological innovations such as computer, Internet, mobile phones have made our life as easy as one could ever imagine. But at the same time, the side effects that these technologies pose to health can be fatal. (Allsop, Holt, 2010).There are certain factors that humans tend to ignore when they use up the technologies they have got. The following paragraphs discuss the most common technologies that are used in our day to day life presenting their advantages, disadvantages in all forms of life.
Causes and Effects of Computer
Consider the evolution of personal computer. It was started as just a machine to solve calculations in our day to day work and later on it became the work for many and now it is almost like the entire world and mind of a human being is simulated into one single device.(Baggett, 2010). It has become such an integral part of our life that many business people find themselves unemployed if it is removed. The unlimited opportunities that it has provided have been always the major talking point of computers. But, when given a critical analysis to it, the social and economic tensions that exist all over the world are caused largely through the use of this piece of technology. (Parvinen, 2010).Since the advantages of a computer have been almost a common knowledge adhered in everyones mind, it is necessary show case some of its problems that are commonly neglected. (Latin, 2010)
People who work consistently with the computer tends to lose their appetites which in turn affect their desire for food. (Hagan, 2010) Their main motive of working which is to get better living gets lost in the midst of social pressures that are mounted on them due to the work that they have to perform. Though the work is irrelevant to technology, it remains to be the primary cause of generating such work. Another such effect of technology is the social pressures that are created. (Byrne 2010)
With the advent of Internet and mobile phones , people often get together and get in touch with almost everyone they knew.(Cumming, 2010). Also, it has become an easy task to befriend anyone from any part of the world So, though most of the people use Internet for shopping, reading and other stuffs, people from younger age group get addicted to it, spending so many hours on line, so much that it affects their daily routines that they have been doing prior to the introduction of Internet.(Byrne, 2010). And, people at the age of around 20s get addicted to social networking sites and porn sites so much that they become mentally disturbed and in future, it results in several psychological diseases. (Sideways, 2010) Some of the common diseases that they tend to get into are addiction, depression and loss of social relationships with their blood relations. (Guardian, 2010)
But, all cannot be said bad about technologies. There are several advantages of Internet. Consider the example of an operation being done in a remote place from another remote place which is far away from the first place. (Coffees Bar, 2010).This can be done and this is being done nowadays. This was all possible only through the advent of technologies such as Internet. Consider the amount of time that is saved in case of a critical operation. (Ryan, 2010). Consider the number of lives that are being saved with the help of such technologies. In addition to this , several researches have also found out that the frequent use of mobile phone can even help in preventing Alzheimer’s disease.(Latin, 2010) The emission of electronic waves that pass through the ears tend to act as a shield preventing the disease. Hence, a conclusive decision on the effects of technology deciding them to be either positive or negative is yet to be determined.(Cox 2010)
Mobile Phones and Television
Nowadays, the place we are present is known to us only with the help of hand held devices. As days progressed, the whole world has been brought into the palms of a human being. (Jette, 2010).It has been a common phrase in recent times, that a person can control the whole world if he/she has this device in hand. It is indeed true that such things are happening in reality. People always stay connected with the people whom they always want to stay with thereby reducing the emotional tensions that normally arise in a relationship. (Laurence, 2010).But, gone are the days, were people waited for years to see people and gazed in the limelight when they saw them. Such kinds of emotions that run through a person at those instances are hardly visible nowadays. (Mccafferty 2010)
Apart from emotional and social changes that have happened through technology there have also been legal pressures that have arisen. Hoax calls indicating a bomb scare or spreading of illegal information can happen in a matter of seconds. (Lantin, 2010).These sorts of instances can affect an entire nation both legally as well as in a social manner too. Similar incidents can be taken as example in the case of television. (Escience, 2010).Though we get to know whatever that is happening around the world just from one screen, the same can be used illegally which may lead to terrorism attacks. (Guardian, 2010).There are several such instances that can be considered to have caused danger to human health.(Smith 2010)
Conclusion
People may tend to get into different arguments when the topic of technology props up. Such has been its effect that it has evolved each and every human being to speak either for it or against, the former being the major number of cases. Just to take a list down of all the help that technological advancements have provided in saving a life include: curing diabetics through electronic pancreas;(Mehta 2010) ultrasounds to find out very minute kind of diseases; impairing the deaf; giving vision to the blind; right from heart to leg transplantations that help in allowing dead people to see the world through another human body. Such are the advantages and last but not least there are enough disadvantages to go with that. But, when it comes to how life proceeds, technology as more often resulted in good than in bad. One might praise technology or hate it but with the trends existing in the world, one cannot live without it and one must say that it is indeed true!
