Anthocyanins are known as strict combatants of free radicals in the body that are responsible for the formation of cancerous cells. Tests have proven that Anthocyanins can eliminate tumors and breast cancer when detected at an early stage, with color depending on the pH. Anthocyanin belongs to the class of molecules called flavonoids (May, 2003).

Anthocyanins have a positive effect on the production of abnormal collagen in addition, Anthocyanins are important in increasing blood sugar metabolism and assimilation in the body. In this case, it can be used to treat diabetes, especially retinopathy diabetes which usually leads to blindness.

Research has indicated that Anthocyanins can prevent the accumulation of cholesterol in the blood capillaries and the heart. In this case, a particular amount of Anthocyanins can manage heart attack conditions.

Other benefits of Anthocyanins include weight loss, improved eyesight, cognitive functions, and ulcer treatment.

Anthocyanins have been blamed for inducing menstruation. Though this would be important in kids experiencing delayed menstrual cycles, the dose may create problems as it would break the normal menstrual cycle. This would be quite dangerous, especially to those using the natural way of family planning.

These plants include cranberry, blueberry, bilberry, red raspberry, blackcurrant, blackberry; cherry, eggplant peel, and black rice (Motohashi, 2008).
