Impact of patient engagement in key areas of health care al Affiliation Impact of patient engagement in key areas of health care Patients are very important participants in ensuring the safety of their care. Their involvement in different areas of the health field has led to a lot of positive outcomes in as far as offering them quality services is concerned. Patient safety Patient engagement is an important step in ensuring that the right treatment is given to them and also promote transparency in communication with their families which has led to honesty in as far as their health is concerned.

Some health providers have been seen to hide sensitive information concerning a patients health for fear of traumatizing the patient (Carman et al., 2013). However, this has worsened the health of patients. For example, poor engagement between family, care provider and patient could lead to a patient taking medication for a simple illness yet they are suffering from something worse that they may not have been informed by their health providers. All this is brought about by the lack of transparency.

Patient engagement in their safety has also enabled them to provide important information that may be lacking from their medical records hence improving the severity of their illness. Quality and patient outcomes Patients have also been engaged in as far as quality and outcome is concerned, and this has also impacted positively in their welfare. There has been involvement and informing them when choosing options of treatment and, therefore, they are given a chance to choose what they are comfortable with (Mullins, Abdulhalim, & Lavallee, 2012).

For example, both patients and their families are engaged in educational initiatives on healthy eating habits and the provision of better health care services at lower costs hence making it affordable to many people. Improvement of health outcomes has also been witnessed due to patients being involved fully in prevention, decision -making and self-management activities (Herrin et al., 2015). Effective communication Patient engagement in effective communication has led to a successful relationship between patient and care provider.

It has encouraged an open form communication leading to more accurate diagnosis, appropriate counselling which has in turn improved adherence to treatment plans that have benefited long-term health (Mullins, Abdulhalim, & Lavallee, 2012). For example, poor communication between care provider and the patient can lead to errors in diagnosis. In conclusion, we can see that patient engagement in the three heath sectors has yielded positive results in as far as both the patients and care providers are concerned.
