A Donors Major Gift Path with the Seven Faces Staffing, mission, location of the organization Tzu Chi is a Buddhist organization formed to provide relief to the communities or people suffering. The organization has mission statement which helps in operation and goals achievement. Tzu Chi has different departments which deal with humanitarian issues or provision of care to individuals who are not able to support themselves. The mission for the organization is to provide quality dental, medical, vision care and alternative medicine together with education health and health care services to the people who are income disadvantaged regardless of their race, gender, age and religion while encouraging love to both the gives and the receivers. According to the mission, Tzu Chi does not discriminate people but it provides gifts to people without consideration of the religion. The organization is a Buddhist foundation but provides the gifts to members of other religion because it does not require the person receiving the gift to disclose the religious practice (Tzu Ch 2). Tzu Chi has many sub organizations located in different part of the world. The sub organizations include international medical association and the college youth association. The foundation was established in 1966 by Master Cheng Yen in Hualien, Taiwan. Other branches for Tzu Chi are located in Asia, Europe, Africa and North and South America. The organization provides services with the help of paid and volunteer staffs. The staffs are recognized in the world with their color of the uniform they ware while providing services. They ware white and blue informs known as the blue angels. The salary for the paid staff is obtained from the gifts provided by the donors. The volunteer are not paid but are given tokens for lunch and personal needs. Tzu Chi undertakes many tasks and it has different workers who provide different services. The services provided by the organization are education, medical, case management and disaster relief. The organization has staff workers who provide services in those departments. The volunteers are given task in respect to their qualification while the paid workers are employed to fill the vacant position which needs specialist or professional (Tzu Ch 5). The donor and their family, protecting identities Most of the donors come from Taiwan. Tzu Chi does not target the rich but accepts donation from people of different class. The founder, Master Cheng Hen states that giving is the sincere privilege and not privilege of the rich. The donor who was giving out the gift was a man and due to the privacy his name was not disclosed by the development officer. The donor did not come from a wealth family but from a middle class family. The development officer claimed that the donor was willing to provide help to the needy and give any kind of gift (Tzu Ch 1). Identification of donor, cultivation and matching the mission or project and the time period The donor volunteered himself after noticing the existence of Tzu Chi. The donor knew the organization through social media (Facebook). The organization has Facebook pages which notifying individuals about the existence of the organization. After coming across the Facebook page the donor was interested in providing help for the needy. The donation which the he was interested in was aimed for medical assistance. The donor discovered that the organization’s mission is to provide help for the people and encouragement of both the donors and the people receiving the gifts (Tzu Ch 7). In this case, the donor did not want anything in return and decided to give out money to support the medical programs operated by the organization. The donor volunteered to be giving out the donation each month after receiving the monthly salary. The donor noticed that the organization provides gifts without application of corruption and decided to provide his denotation. After noticing the organization provided services as required the donor decided to be providing the donation each month. He claimed that there are always people in need each month and he will be providing help each month (Tzu Ch 8). Project officer action in facilitating the process of gifts, events, letters, meeting of paid staff and volunteers and recording of the donor communication The project officer carried out different tasks in order to facilitate the gifts. He formulated the budget required for the medical project. After the budget was set, the organization then announced the project and advised people to donate in order to help in completing the project. The projects are only aimed in helping people and not making profit. Calculation of the budget was done in respect to people needs, salary of the workers, facility fee and taxation. The required amount was contributed to the organization accounts and then used in the project. In order to get the donation the project officer created awareness of the project to the public. Creation of awareness was done by the use of television, radio and social media. The organization also updated the website and included news about the project at the website. The projects were also advertised at the organizations Facebook page to create awareness to the Facebook users. The donor come across the advert and requested for more information. He then made payment for the gift using credit card (Tzu Ch 4). The project officer sent the details requested by donor through email. The donor sent a notification explaining to the project officer that he had received the email. The officer also sent a letter to the donor giving more details about the organization and payment options. He also used Facebook messages or Watssup while contacting the donor. All the communication was done by use of email, phone and social media messages (Tzu Ch 3). In arranging for the gifts, the project officer held up meeting with the staff and the donors in order to give more details of the project. At the meeting the employees asked question and also gave out comments about the project. The donor also gave out comments and the changes he needed to be applied in the project. After that the donor gave ways in which the required amount of money can be raised (Tzu Ch 6). After receiving the gift, the project officer held a meeting with the volunteers and the paid staff in order to allocate duties. Each person was allocated a task to perform. The workers also gave suggestions on what to do. The workers also recommend individuals who can provide the tasks effectively. The day to deliver each task was set and communicated to the paid staff and volunteers in the meeting held by the project officer (Tzu Ch 5). When the transaction was complete the donor was recorded after giving out the transaction receipt. The organization gives out receipt that serves as evidence. People who provide cash gifts are given cash receipts. The organization values donors and each transaction made by the donor is recorded in the files. The information of the donor was kept secretly because he did not want to be exposed. For safety and keeping the donors information safe, the communication done with the donor was not recorded (Tzu Ch 2). The gift and what it took In this case the donor gave the gift in form of cash. The donor wanted to provide help to the people seeking medical attention. The money which was given out by the donor were aimed in buying medicine and other medical facilities to help the sick or the families which do not have the ability to access or pay for medical services. The donor used is credit card in making the payment. The credit card was charged and the money was transferred to the organization’s account. The transaction takes only two days to reflect in the account. It just took three days after the donor had made the payment and the organization had the money. The process of giving out the gift took like four days. The donor had come across the project and he had to inquire about the operation of the organization. After the donor was certified with the information given about the operation of the organization he made the payment instantly. The process of taking the gift took many steps but lasted for only four day (Tzu Ch 7). Recognition of the gift and how it was determined The gift was recognized by the organization after it was transferred to the account. The organization requires donors to provide information on the form and purpose of the donation made. In this case, the donor contacted the organization before making the payment. After making the payment by the use of visa the donor specified that the gift was made to provide help in medical services. The customer gave the organization his personal information. The project officer was able to identify the information provided by the donor and match it with the payment made. After the process of verification of donation was complete, the money was available for use in the specified projects (Tzu Ch 1). Quick and unexpected events during the process In the process there were some events which took place quickly. There were also unexpected events taking place in the process. The donor wanted to get information about the operation of the organization urgently. He made the inquiry at night hours and demanded for quick response. The message was pressing and in the organization nobody expected that an individual can make an inquiry at night hours and demand for response before morning. The project officer had to reply the message and the donor was happy on the quick response. The organization had to adjust and meet the donors demand (Hodge 3). Type of donor in respect to the seven faces of philanthropy and why In respect to the philanthropy seven faces, the donor was a potential major donor. In respect to the theory, potential major donors are the donors who have faith and believe in the organization’s mission and support. The donor in this case believed in the organization’s mission and that is why he decided to give out the contribution (Tzu Ch 2). Application of the gift in respect to the theory of donor’s gift seven faces The process of gift acquisition was made in respect to the seven faces theory. The seven faces include identifying, qualifying and research followed by introduction, interaction and connection then interest and needs followed by inform and deepen understanding. The fifth step is involvement, engagement and acknowledgement and finally investment, steward and recognition. The development officer identified the donor and assessed the qualification. He researched in order to check whether the donor qualified. The donor had requested the information and it was provided. He was introduced and interacted with in the second step. Finally, the money or donation was used in investment or provision of medical services to the disadvantaged communities or people (Wilson 67). Impact of the gift to the organization and the work it does The gift is more important to the organization because it helps in achieving the organization’s mission. After receiving the gift, the organization was able to provide medical help to people. One of the objectives of the organization is to help those in need and the gift helped in making the organization to achieve the set objectives. The donor also promised to be giving donation each month and this means that each month the organization will be having something to give to the needy (Tzu Ch 6). Personal opinion of the donor, process and the development work it required. The current process of acquiring gifts is not prominent or effective. The organization should consider seeking individuals who can be natural partners as charity organization prime responsibility is to seek individuals who can provide donation or support the operations. The organization should carry out research and identify prominent people who can act as donor to support the organization. The research should involve family, search, donation history and ability to adhere to mission and objectives of an organization. The advertisement of projects and services at social media is costly and not all people interested in making donation.
