Are Cell phones safe for our use or not? Introduction With the increasing number of mobile phone users, researchers and scientists are becoming wary of the safety of these important yet medically controversial devices. Whereas some scientists and researchers argue that mobile handsets are safe, others argue that indeed, mobile phone can cause cancer. However, there is overwhelming evidence to prove that indeed, mobile phones do not cause cancer. This paper seeks to prove that cell phones are safe for use and do not cause cancer.
Cell phones cannot cause cancer since the radio frequency they emit is weak and non-ionizing and therefore, safe. Although cell phones emit radiofrequency radiation, they do so in a safe way. Firstly, the radio frequency emitted primarily depends on cell phone technology (Ray web). However, technology has increased tremendously with time. Secondly, high-speed fiber optic cables have replaced cell towers hence making it safer to use cellphones. However, World Health organization (W.H.O) proves otherwise by claiming that rate of brain glioma, a type of cancer, has doubled due to increase use of cell phones (Dellorto web).
Whereas these claims may carry some truth, it is worth noting that the number of cell phone users has reached five billion and yet the cases of cell phone related cancer remain insignificant. Therefore, cell phone usage is safe and cannot cause cancer.Use of modern technology cell phones can hardly cause cancer since technology has shifted from analogue to digital which is safer. According to a study carried out by Institute of Cancer Epidemiology, people who used cell phones when transmission system was analogue did not exhibit any cases of cancer (Ray web).
Notably, the analogue systems were synonymous with high-energy transmissions, which would have potentially caused cancer. However, studies proved otherwise. It is therefore, expected that digitally powered cell phones be safer to use since they use very little radiation energy. However, WHO claims that use of cell phones for more than 50 minutes increases brain activity (Dellorto web). These claims are not evidentially supported since there is no any relationship between brain activity and cancer.
Additionally, very few people stay on one call for such a long time on one call. Therefore, it can safely be concluded that cell phones when used properly cannot be a predisposing factor to cancer. Cellphone use cannot cause cancer since handling of cell phones has changed. Certainly, there has been a change in the way cell phones are handled when making calls. Most of the modern phones are video enabled and therefore, they are placed facing the user for video chatting. Although medical experts warn that putting the cell phone too close to the body can cause cancer (Ray web), these claims are becoming obsolete since phone use has changed from sound dependent to sound and video dependent.
Thus, cell phones are held far away from the body and therefore safe. ConclusionThe potentiality of cell phones as a predisposing factor to cancer has been hotly contested. However, evidence supports that indeed, it is safe to use cell phones. Modern technology has made cell phone use safer. Mode of use of cell phones as video device has made it safe to use cell phones. Most notably, even the high-energy analogue cell phones did not predispose people to cancer. However, safe use of cell phones should be exercised for precautionary measures.
