Diet for a New America Although the intention of the documentary “Diet for a New America” by John Robbins has the best of intentions, it is however,an outdated video that contains information that has been either disproved or modified by modern food science discoveries. The movie itself seems to be slanted towards getting people to agree with a radical vegetarian lifestyle by using the shock factor in relation to our food intake. Proof of the lack of real knowledge and understanding of the changing food criteria and health considerations of Americans by the people who put together the video can be seen in the way that Robbins and his “experts” advocate more carbohydrate intake and less protein intake for people.

It is their belief that by cutting out proteins and dairy products from their diet, people will actually begin to lead healthier lives and allow the body to heal itself. Nothing be further from the truth. As everyone now knows, food science dictates the intake of the 4 basic food groups in moderate amounts. After all, the body is a complex system that requires the existence of various components within our system in order to function at optimum capacity. “Diet for a New America” is a good documentary to watch if you want to begin a debate on the proper eating lifestyle of a person.

However, even though it allows for a healthy debate on the topic, not once does it ever offer an alternative to the current eating lifestyle of the people being interviewed. That is the main problem that this documentary has in my opinion. It gives a lot of argumentative information without ever showing the other side of the story. That is why I believe that this documentary movie was meant solely as part of a vegetarian diet propaganda push. Works CitedDiet for a New America. Dir. Ed Schuman. Perf. John Robbins.
