Breakdown of nutritional main dish (recipe provided w/all nutrition facts) Lecturer: The of the recipe that I am evaluating is free over the hump, winter wonder recipe. This is basically a meal that has been recommended for a cold or cool winter. This recipe is for a meal that is believed to have the ability of bringing warmth back in the family especially when prepared for dinner .Its one of those not so heavy but healthy and hearty balanced meal that can keep family members at the table requesting for more.

This recipe is for a meal that practically cooks without one necessarily interfering or cooking it. It only takes less than ten minutes to cook giving the mother of the house an opportunity to sit and have fun with the rest of the family. The recipe has quite a number of essential nutrients, for instance, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals and vitamins are all included in this recipe. As far as proteins are concerned, there were skinless chicken thighs, fresh, peeled, and whole greens beans.

Bay leaf, sea salt and lemon pepper provides vitamins to the meal. The biscuits dough and fresh yams are all carbohydrates (Drummond and Brefere, 2010). The cooking oil is necessary for it represents fats and the water which is very important not just because it’s rich in mineral salts but as necessary ingredient for ensuring the process of metabolism takes place. The recipe has quite a number of ingredients which are providing different nutrient. The skinless chicken provides proteins, fats, and dietary fibers.

The water provided mineral salts like calcium and iron. The fresh, peeled, whole green beans comprise of proteins and a bit of fibers. Bay leaf is responsible for vitamins and also fiber in the diet (Drummond and Brefere, 2010). Sea salt and lemon pepper cater for mineral salts like calcium and iodine while the great-value ready –bake refrigerated biscuit dough and the fresh yams all provide carbohydrates and starch. This recipe includes a very good balance of the essential nutrients that are required for a healthy living.

Nutritionists always advice that for one to be healthy, they need to eat food that is rich in all the required nutrients. It is always advised that one must eat food that has carbohydrates, vitamins, proteins, fats and mineral salts in abundance (Drummond and Brefere, 2010). This is normally aimed at protecting the body against any antibodies and diseases. The recipe consists of all the required nutrients-vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, fats and mineral salts. There are many other nutrients that can be included in the recipe to make it more nutritious.

More essential nutrients are always needed for improving the normal and general body system functioning which cannot be manufactured or synthesized by our bodies in the required amounts to keep us healthy. A good example of such nutrients is niacin and choline. The essential nutrients can only be a rich dietary source (Drummond and Brefere, 2010). For this recipe, to make it more nutritious, other categories of essential and necessary nutrients like dietary minerals, fatty acids, and amino acids could be added.

Another very important nutrient that can be included is ascorbic acid-vitamin C, by including broccoli, strawberries, parsley and bell pepper. This, I consider it a healthy meal because of number or reasons .First it comprise of all the required essential nutrients like carbohydrates, vitamins, proteins, fats and mineral salts. All this are very important for ensuring that one lives a healthy life. To make it even better, the food requires only ten minutes cooking (Drummond and Brefere, 2010).

This rules out the whole probability of some nutrients, particularly vitamins, being lost through over cooking. There is no doubt that, indeed, this is a healthy meal.According to Drummond and Brefere (2010), in deed most people find it difficult to determine the dietary contents and nutritional value of any given food. Personally I find no difficulty or problem at all. Some of the methods to help one to easily determine and identify the nutritional values in any food include reading on the containers to see some of the contents and their value or checking the food labels or researching on foods that normally lack labels to know exactly their nutritional value.

There are factors that greatly influence the kind of choices that people make in as far as foods and drinks are concerned. When it comes to environmental factors the weather or climatic conditions can determine what kind of food or drink one will prefer. The economic class that one belongs to may make him or her prefer a certain drink or food –that which they can only afford, for instance. Psychosocial factors like ones health condition may also influenced their food and drink choices in today’s society.
