The death of one’s beloved grandfather was regarded as a personal experience that influenced my life. He had been a powerful figure and an inspiration since childhood through the happy memories shared with him. My grandfather had shared life’s most important lessons ranging from trying my best in all things that I engage in and in not giving up what I dream and hope to become. I have always thought that life was superficial and things happen just because they have to occur.

My grandfather reminded me that things always happen for a purpose: that we have to define our goals and design strategies to achieve them. His life experience of rising beyond difficulties was an embodiment of his advice. He financed his own studies in the university by working part-time at an organization. He rose from that same company through the lowest rank to being an assistant vice president upon retirement age. He taught me the value of education, determination, persistence, and being socially responsible.

When my grandfather died, I realized that it was just his time to leave a life that was lived to the fullest. The lessons imparted remained to be inculcated in one’s memories and continue to shape the person I am now.
