Reasons for Pursuing a Career in NursingAs the world has progressed, the arena of healthcare has also moved ahead. Doctors and Nurses constitute an important part of the healthcare facility. It is usually believed that the doctors only are solely responsible for the healthcare facilities but this perception is quite wrong as nurses play an equally important role in providing health care. Nurses have an important role to play when it comes to the treatment of the patients. Nursing has always been a profession of respect and dignity.

With the increasing knowledge about medicine and relative diseases it has been seen that nursing has grown from a profession to be an act of service. I have always been interested in serving individuals living in this world and nursing is the profession which best serves my interests.Nursing is a profession which is difficult to define as in 1859 Florence Nightingale wrote: “The elements of nursing are all but unknown.” (Nightingale 1859) However to define the complexities of nursing it can be put that nursing is a profession which helps in curing individuals so that they can attain optimal health from the conditions they are suffering from.

Florence Nightingale worked as a nurse in times when nurses were desperately needed to improve the conditions of individuals who were suffering in the period of war and there was a spread of ailments. Analyzing her life serves to provide me as an inspiration and keeping myself in her position tells me how relieving but difficult can the profession of nursing be. But to take up the challenge for a better cause is what I have opted for. Nursing is a very challenging profession but a profession which raises the dignity of an individual and involves one actively in increasing the health status of the world.

A nurse has to provide the individuals with proper care so that the individuals do not have to suffer. A nurse has to look upon the hygiene, appetite, and surroundings of the one who is suffering necessarily. These duties are all essential for a nurse and I am fully aware of all of them and I am ready to take up these duties. The nurse is involved in improving the aspect of the world at the ground root level and this is where I want to be so that I can actually work towards improving health at the level where it is needed the most.

I will utilize all my experiences plus my clinical knowledge to serve in the best possible manner and prove myself as a good nurse with the all round skills that are actually essential for a nurse to have according to the requirements of the World Health Organization which specified the fact that, “Nursing is both an art and a science that requires the understanding and application of the knowledge and skills specific to the discipline. It also draws on knowledge and techniques derived from the humanities and the physical, social, medical and biological sciences.

” (World Health Organization, 1991). I am very devoted to my career and I assure of the fact that I will put in all my hard work to complete my studies and become a successful nurse.
