Applying to the Medical Science Program - Personal Statement Example

I am planning further to pursue a higher degree in the field of medical science from a prestigious institute. I believe that this degree will help me achieve my personal and professional goals.

I am interested in studying medicine because of my huge interest in this field. Since I stepped into high school, I had the aim to serve my nation as a highly qualified doctor. Now that I have completed my high school, I think it is time for me to fulfill my goals. I want to study different types of medicines to know their positive and negative effects. I also want to get knowledge of different types of drug therapies and medical treatments because it will help me provide the best available treatment to patients. I think doctors are the real saviors who care for the health of people regardless of race, gender, or religion. They have just one goal in mind which is to ensure the good health of people. Health is the most important asset of life for any person. I want to play my role in protecting this valuable asset of people by earning a good amount of knowledge and experience in the field of medicine.

Along with my interest, my recent educational record is also valid proof of my interest in medical science. I have received nothing less than ‘A’ grades in all subjects related to healthcare and medicine. I am also good at extra-curricular activities. For example, currently, I am a grade eight pianist. Similarly, I have achieved BHS Level 3 in horse riding and level 12 in swimming. Moreover, I have also won many science competitions.

I have a desire to establish my name in the field of medicine by providing proper healthcare services to people and that can only be possible if I get an advanced degree in medicine. I aim to provide all of my support and care to patients by performing a wide range of healthcare services, such as administrating medications, giving emotional support to patients, analyzing the medical history of patients to diagnose diseases, providing the best medical treatment to patients, and doing other tasks related to the provision of healthcare. I want to be skilled in working in collaboration with health professionals and physicians. I want to be able to use nursing techniques, knowledge, and theories to provide the best medical care to patients. I also want to be able to assist other health professionals in diagnosing complex medical problems.

Here, I would like to share my volunteer experience of working in a hospital setting. Last year, I worked at a hospital for six months where my role was to sterilize the medical equipment, shadow various clinical rotations and doctors’ private practice, assemble patients’ charts, and assist surgeons in doing minor surgeries. However, I was not allowed real patient contact because of a lack of experience in giving medical treatment. From this volunteer experience, I learned the way physicians interact with patients and analyze their medical histories. I also got the courage of doing minor surgeries which is very important for a person to become a successful surgeon.
I would also like to share a memorable incident that occurred during the above-mentioned volunteer experience. One day, while performing my job responsibilities, I passed by a nurse who was taking care of an old woman who had a minor injury in her left hand and was crying in pain. After getting the treatment, the old woman kissed the hands and forehead of the nurse. It was a very nice moment that motivated me to become a doctor in the future.
Summing it up, I have plans to serve my nation after getting an advanced degree in the field of medicine. My immediate plan is to take admitted to some prestigious institute from where I can get high-quality education in my desired field. Read More
