Flooding could also be a result of tsunamis, which have often accompanied earthquakes with such magnitudes, as has ever been the occurrences in Japan, Chile, and the Philippines (Bormann & Saul 2010). Other dangers that accompany earthquakes with such magnitudes include fires and various forms of environmental pollution such as chemical spills. Fires can be triggered by broken power lines and gas lines or even coal-tipped stoves. In this regard, precautions that need to be taken should be informed by such underlying dangers. As such, precautions encompass measures that should be taken in the expectation of such dangers, and this includes putting on appropriate protective ears (Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust 2007).

Follow-up would include making the preparations, planning, and implementation. Before getting to the scene, one may gather emergency supplies, seek to identify and reduce hazards in the area of disaster and practice what should be done during the disaster. It has been widely cited that the levels of disaster preparation play a crucial role in the realization of success for the implementation of disaster programs (Frohlich 2006). It would even be imperative to divide the planning processes into a range of stages such as assessment, modeling, mitigation, and practicing. Assessment, in this case, would include determining the levels of risks that the Papua population has been subjected to. Assessments would also include the identification of the vulnerabilities, which would also include considering access to medical emergencies. Modeling would include getting a clear understanding of the earthquake disaster needs to be taken into consideration (Herak, Panza & Costa 2001). While this is crucial, plans need to be taken in a manner that is tailored for specific disasters.
