s Health Education Case Study In the case of Mary and DeWayne, the two have been in a close relationship that was supposed to end in marriage. The two partners have been in this intimacy for two years. Mary has all her hopes in DeWayne and feels that without him, her life will be incomplete. On the other hand, DeWayne has been trying to avoid her and has already established afresh relationship with another lady. After Mary learnt of DeWayne promiscuity he has now decided to disown Mary completely. This encounter has caused Mary a great deal of tension and she feels as if her world has crumbled. This has made her to lose her appetite and engage in drinking alcohol and worse she has started discarding her economic activities. Her friends are also concerned that the issue may impact her health and social life negatively hence causing health complications. According to Cupach & Spitzberg (37), being in a relationship involves both mind and bodily appeal to each other. Every human being has aspiration to love and be loved by other people because this creates desire of identity that can only be fulfilled in close affiliation. It also provides bodily and expressive attraction between those who are in the relationship. In addition, people who are in close relationship worry about each other and enable them to share their excitements; hence relationship promotes well being of those involved. When intimate relationships comes to a halt for one reason or the other, the parties involved may suffer frustrations that results to physical and social problems especially to the offended partner. Therefore, relationships affect most people because it involves both mental and physical being of a person to fall in a relationship and to keep it going. According to Cupach & Spitzberg (76), when different people encounter situations in which they have to break from their relationships for one reason or the other, those people have capability to handle the circumstances in diverse ways. This is because there are those who have multiple friends hence when they lose one they always find consolation from others. For example, in this case Mary had completely thrown all her trust on DeWayne and this is why she got more hurt, while if she had another person as her lover in her life, she would turn to him after she was discarded by DeWayne. It also depends on what benefit a person was getting from the broken relationship (Jordan, Nietzel & Logan, 85). For example if one was entirely dependent on the other person, then he or she will be most affected if that relationship is broken. In addition, the effect of depression as a result of broken marriage affect the brain of the victim hence different people have different immune to similar shocks hence they suffer differently depending on the retention potential of the individuals to shocks. It is normal for people to constantly think about those whom they love and build trust in them (Werkle & Wall, 49). However, it is essential always to take caution in a relationship and be prepared for anything in order to avoid suffering depression when unexpected occurs (Cupach & Spitzberg, 123). This is because even death may take away the life of the other person hence resulting to a situation like the one Mary was in. Therefore, Mary’s expectations and perceptions are unrealistic because she should not have invested all her being in another person whose future has no certainty. DeWayne conducts towards Mary was so inhuman. Relationship takes time to form and sudden breakup may be so traumatizing to the other partner who was unprepared for the situation. DeWayne should have informed Mary the reason why he felt that he could no longer continue to love her and let her get prepared to face the situation. He should have known that Mary had a lot of trust and hope in him and therefore, breaking it will make her to feel inferior and betrayed and this is also likely to affect her future relationships because she may not trust any other person in the future (Jordan, Nietzel & Logan, 98). Therefore, even if DeWayne felt fed up with their relationship and desired to have another lady as his lover, he should have acted morally by talking to Mary and letting her know the reason for his decision and should inform her that there was nothing wrong with her, but it was only his decision to have a different person in his life. This would at least help Mary to easily adjust to changes without feeling betrayed and disrespected. Since shocks in lives around bound to occur, the most important thing is not to succumb to the fate, but to recollect oneself and move on with life (Cupach & Spitzberg, 131). For example, Mary’s reaction to the situation was unrealistic because she resulted to drinking, failing to attend classes and refusing to eat. This was not the best away to behave since DeWayne was still moving on with his life while Mary continued to spoil her future. According to Werkle & Wall (52), since sometimes people are faced with difficulties beyond their tolerance; those who are living around them should assist them to face reality of life. Mary requires someone to guide and offer her counseling by letting her realize that such things always happen in someone’s life, but that does not stop them from moving on with their lives. This would encourage Mary continue with her normal life while anticipating that one day her right marriage partner world come and she would live a happy married life. According to Jordan, Nietzel & Logan (42), relationship brings people close to each other to share their emotional feelings and build mutual trust with each other. Therefore, when there is disintegration of relationships, people lose affection and feel betrayed and demoralized because of that emotional and physical disconnect. According to Werkle & Wall (63), Mary’s friends should establish close relationship to her and make her feel that all is not lost in life. They should assist her to face the reality and prepare psychologically to live a different life away from her ex-boyfriend. They should share with their similar encounters with Mary and make to realize that it is normal to lose someone she was very intimate with.
