Personal ment for Physician Assistant to of Washington - MEDEX Northwest Any career in medicine provides an individual with a chance to express their altruism when serving their community. As a result, medical students should consider joining institutions that will provide them with the appropriate chance to equip themselves with the required knowledge and skills to practice their careers. In this case, each institution has its own history based on the focus of its curriculum. In effect, it is incumbent upon a medical student to ensure that they join an institution that provides them a chance to achieve their personal and career objectives. A physician assistant (PA) is a professional in the healthcare sector whose roles, although limited, are similar to the roles played by a physician. In effect, a PA should join an institution that has a history of equipping physician assistants with pertinent knowledge and skills that are important for practice. In effect, MEDEX Northwest meets the standard of an institution with an outstanding program aimed at training physician assistants. MEDEX Northwest mission statement declares that the institution’s program “educates physician assistants in a proven tradition of excellence.” As an aspiring physician, I want to be an exceptional PA who serves the society with passion and diligence. In order to achieve excellence in my work, MEDEX’s proven record of accomplishments in educating physician assistants will help me achieve this objective. On the other hand, the institution structures its broad curriculum with an emphasis on providing healthcare to underserved populations. In effect, the structure of the curriculum is in harmony with my objective of serving the Latino community, which is one of the communities experiencing insufficient medical services. In this case, the mission statement at MEDEX is in harmony with my career and personal objectives, which motivates me to apply to the institution. As an individual, who was born and raised in Inner City New York, I am fortunate enough to be the first member of my family to earn a college degree, an unprecedented accomplishment considering my underprivileged background. Besides, the infrastructure in Inner City New York is appalling with residents lacking basic facilities such as sufficient medical facilities. As a child, I used to visit the local medical facility, suffering from numerous stomachaches and regular flu, which is a result of the poor drainage system in my community. In the facility, I could see a number of other residents suffering and showing similar symptoms while others exhibited symptoms of serious diseases. However, the facility lacked enough medical personnel, laboratory equipment, and prescription drugs to cure the indisposed members of the community. In effect, these personal experiences strengthened my resolution to become a physical assistant with an aim of focusing on family practice while serving the underserved Latino community. Thus, I believe my personal objective of helping the underserved communities makes me a good candidate for the University of Washington. In addition, I have gained clinical experience working as a medical assistant to clinicians and surgeons in the provision of ophthalmic care to patients performing my duties according to the standard of care, policies, and procedures of practice. Moreover, I am on-call twice a month attending to surgical emergencies, which has helped me gain interest in healthcare since I listen to patients talk about their pain and suffering, I cannot escape the fact that I had low scores in Science, GPA, and GRE. In effect, this may challenge my performance in medical school although the fact that I have been a medical assistant implies that I have gained the important skills and knowledge of the language used in medicine, which may solve the challenge of low scores in Science, GPA, and GRE. On the other hand, being a medical assistant entails that I have been dealing with the practical part of my practice. Accordingly, joining school implies that I will primarily deal with theory, as opposed to a lot of practical work. In effect, the translation from practical work to theory may be a challenge to me initially although I know my patience and diligence will enable me to fit into the school system since I will easily relate the practice to the theory learned. In contrast, I will bring in a wealth of knowledge that will be important to me and my classmates to facilitate our achievement of success in our careers since we will understand the link between theories to the actual application of theory in our practice. In addition, I believe that a successful physician assistant should exercise a high level of commitment towards their profession in their quest to provide services to the society. In view of this fact, my commitment to the medical profession will help me organize and influence my classmates in being the best in the field so that we can achieve the objective of having a healthy nation, which will ensure economic growth to our country. I realize that it is a lengthy journey towards achieving the mandatory requirements to practice as a physician assistant. In this case, I realize that I will be responsible for making decisions, although I will be under the supervision of a physician whose basic role is only a supervisory role, which signifies the importance of making the right decisions. Hence, it is important for me to plan for the transition from a medical school student to a physician assistant in family practice. In effect, I will use my experience with fellow professionals, more so with physician assistants, who taught me that the most important element to success in our career is patience and diligence – virtues that I have been able to cultivate as a medical assistant. Consequently, the virtue of patience will help my transition to a physician assistant since I will be able to plan with precision the steps that will develop my practice. Conversely, diligence will enable me to pay proper attention to details when establishing my practice. The responsibilities of a physician assistant are great, which emphasizes the importance of studying in an institution with a proven tradition of excellence such as MEDEX Northwest. Not only is this profession valued in any society, but it also requires commitment and passion for an individual to attain success. In addition, the virtues I have acquired during practice will enable me during my studies together with my classmates, and during my transition from school to practice. Indeed, it will be an honor to learn in your institution in order for me to gain the experience that will allow me to venture into family practice and more so, in working with underprivileged Latino communities whereby I will base my practice. My focus on the Latino community derives from my background since I lived in an underserved community, which prepared my appreciation of the fundamental role of healthcare. However, I realize the importance of studying in an institution that focuses its curriculum on underserved communities in order for me to achieve my objective. Therefore, MEDEX objectives are in harmony with my objectives, and I believe that I am the right candidate to study in your institution. In effect, it will be an honor to have the chance of studying in your institution and I hope you will give me the privilege.
