Krall and Lohse investigated the need for eating competence verified by low-income Pennsylvanians. They stated that, since people belonging to low socio-economic groups possessed disadvantaged life style with poor eating habits, they were in a dire need for eating competence “to improve diet quality”. They interviewed 70 low-income adults in Pennsylvania about food selection, nutritional interests, and eating experiences. Krall and Lohse present another interesting research in 2010, focusing on eating competence in low-income women. After revision of these items, ecSatter inventory could be applied to a larger, heterogeneous low-income sample. Krall and Lohse (2011) yet conducted another similar research a year later, in which they determined the application of ecSatter inventory to low-income females. They conducted their research on 507 females aged between 18-45 years, who completed a web-based survey. The researchers found a direct relationship between eating competence and “physical activity, food acceptance, fruit and vegetable intake, and food planning/resource management” (p.1).
