This simplistic viewpoint is accepted and voiced by some but their ideology is flawed especially when the truths of abortion are examined. The pro-abortion faction wants abortion to be legal so that women can have the procedure performed in a safe manner. However, no operation is safe, particularly an abortion as people are led to believe, not for the mother and certainly not for her baby. In addition, abortion is economically unsound and, most importantly, is murder, or should be legally considered so.
A facet of abortion that has been largely unreported is its economic impact. It may play a significant role in the country’s current economic downturn. The economy works best, not from the top down, “trickle down” but from the bottom up, fueled by consumer spending. The best stimulus plan is one that encourages spending and nothing accomplishes that better than a baby boom. A baby needs diapers, food, clothes, toys, furniture, books and more, much more. The mass purchase of those items creates jobs in the service and manufacturing sectors.
Having children also creates jobs in the educational and health care sectors. As they grow up the needs grow as well and when those babies are grown they supplement the labor force. Instead of immigrants, our future labor force should be homegrown. “At a time when our nation relies on an influx of legal and illegal immigrants, it’s illogical to promote population control.” (Massie, 2010). “Pro Choice” proponents claim that women should be allowed safe access to abortions but the truth is no abortion is safe.
Of women who have had abortions, ninety-seven percent say they experienced extreme pain during the procedure even though local anesthetics were used. “Compared to other pains researchers have rated the pain from abortion as more painful than a bone fracture, about the same as cancer pain, though not as painful as an amputation” (Bulanger, Melzak & Lauzon, 1989). Surveys have demonstrated that patients usually found the procedure more painful than the physician or clinic worker told them to anticipate and that younger women are likely to experience a higher level of pain than older women.
“Complications are common such as bleeding, hemorrhage, laceration of the cervix, menstrual disturbance, inflammation of the reproductive organs, bladder or bowel perforation, and serious infection” (Danforth, 1986). Additionally, having an abortion increases a woman’s risk of sterility and miscarriage. Ashamed, scared and humiliated, a young woman must usually travel to an unfamiliar clinic, not their familiar doctor, to undergo the worst experience of her life. Women can endure long term psychological and physical complications after having an abortion.
Another falsehood promoted as fact is that a fetus is just a cluster of cells, a small piece of tissue not capable of feeling pain. A living, growing embryo has a distinctive set of fingerprints in addition to a unique genetic pattern, different than its mother. It is a person. If death is defined as when the heart stops beating and murder defined as intentionally stopping the heart to beat then abortion is certainly defined as murder. The heart is formed prior to the third week of development, before most women know they are pregnant.
According to a British medical journal placing a pin into an eight-week-old fetus consistently causes it to pull its hands back and open its mouth simulating a crying action and after about one month its legs and eyes to develop. “By week six, brain waves are detectable, mouth and lips are present and fingernails are beginning to form. By the eighth week the baby can begin to hear. Every organ
