Field Project Field Study in Monrovia Canyon Park Introduction Monrovia Canyon Park is a park that was started in year 1911. The park is based in Monrovia in Los Angeles one of the states in United States. Canyon Park is in Eastern part of United States. Los Angeles states border Canyon Park. One state is in the East of Canyon Park, another state is in the Southeast, another state is in the Northern part and the last is in the south of Canyon Park. Canyon Park is by a number of mountain ranges like Klamath, Cascade, Coastal, and Central Valley. Canyon Park has two famous lakes which include; Soda Lake and Tahoe. During the field study, I visited places like; Mojave, Modoc, and Sierra Nevada. Aim of the field study The purpose of the group field study was to understand the climate, topography, the history, biogeography and soils of Canyon Park. Activities performed during the field study. The following are activities that I carried out during the field study; studying the topography of Canyon Park. Learning the micro-climate and either of the State. I also learned the history of Canyon Park and analyzed the biogeography and soils of the county. When was the study complete? It took the group five days to review about Canyon Park. The study was completed after the group got all the details that ire useful. 2. Aims (Hypothesis) The aims of my field study are to consider the climate of different parts of Canyon Park. The study focus to explore the nature of the soil of various part of Canyon Park. It also focuses on identifying the crops that are cultivated in those areas. The second objective of the group’s field study was to learn the historical background of Canyon Park. Thirdly, the project’s aim was also to come up with different natural and what are artificial physical features and how the physical affect the climate of different parts of Canyon Park. Finally, the study was to learn the topography and geology of Canyon Park State. 3. Data Collection During the field study, I collected data in various ways. There was the use of observation. The group observed the type of soil in Canyon Park. Sometimes it involved touching to feel the texture of the soil. The group also viewed the color of soil from different places carefully, and I compared the different between the soils of different areas. The group was keen to observe various features. The helped the group to differentiate between which features are artificial (Man-made) and which are natural physical features. Methods of observation that are used include; taking notes and photos. Some group members ire involved to state on paper which physical features are natural and which are artificial. Several members are also involved in taking pictures of various places. Another method that was used to collect data was the interview. In order to get the history of Canyon Park, the group interviewed several willing residents of Canyon Park. The meeting involved several group members interviewing a number of people. The interviewees are promised of comfort. The group also prepared questionnaires. The questions that the group made are very simple and clear to the reader. Some of the questions include; what is a climate of Canyon Park? How many months does it rain? Which crops are around my place? How long it takes for long rains? Which is best season to plant? The questions helped the group to understand the climate of Canyon Park. The questions also help the team to analyze the type of soil in different places of Canyon Park. The questionnaires are distributed in various places in Canyon Park. The analytical study was also performed. When I needed to know whether the soil is acidic or has a base, I took the soil samples to labs in Canyon Park, and I determined the pH of the soil. The above methods of data collection helped the group to achieve various things. The group was able to identify various physical features surrounding Canyon Park. The group was also able to come up with the type of soil in different places. The methods also gave information about the climate and that of other different areas of Canyon Park. 4. Data Analysis The topography of Canyon Park Canyon Park is a state of 32.5o, and 42o N. Canyon Park is on the coastline of Pacific Ocean. Mojave region has high ranges and valleys. The top parts of Mojave are by snows and those parts experiences heavy rain falls. The parts of the valley experience a cold breeze. The cold breeze makes the area to be dry. Death Valley is below the sea level. The climate of Canyon Park Canyon Park is among few places in the world that has five types of environments that are closely alike. It has parts that are desert, other areas are cold, and others are highlands while other parts are Steppe climate. The climate around Mediterranean Sea has three variations. The variations are as follows; cold summer and chilly winter of the coastal region second variation is hot summers and cool winters and the third change the similar the first variation. The temperatures in some parts of Canyon Park and the summer rains support crops that earn the state good incomes. The parts which are high in Canyon Park like Modoc experiences highland climate and cold interior climate. San Joaquin Valley has steppe climate that is hotter like one for desert. However, it is capable of supporting enough moisture to grow the grassland crops that cannot grow in the desert environment (Kauffman, p.1). Soils in Canyon Park After the group survey on land, the group came up with the following findings. The central valley of Canyon Park has San Joaquin soil that is useful for irrigation of crops like the grapes, the rice, and the wheat. Places along highlands have volcanic ash soil. Geology of Canyon Park Canyon Park is a beautiful place with a good number of attractive physical features some which are artificial while others are just natural. Canyon Park has many climate zones than any other part of United States. The area around Sierra Nevada has a moist air of the sea. History of Canyon Park In 1847, Canyon Park became the territory of United Nations. In 1848, gold was discovered in Canyon Park. In 1964, Canyon Park had become more popular than New York. The reason for Canyon Park to become more popular than New York could be a settlement of many people in Canyon Park. Canyon Park had leading industries in various fields that include the following; tmyism, biotechnology, manufacturing industries and agriculture. The industries also contributed to the growth of population in Canyon Park. 5. Conclusion and Evaluation During the field study, the group managed to learn several things. The things that the group attained from the field study include; the group learned a different type of soil in Canyon Park. The members gain knowledge on which land is suitable for agriculture, and that soil is in grassland. Secondly, the group learned various physical features in Canyon Park. The group understood how those physical characteristics affected the climate of different parts of Canyon Park. For example, the group member explained how the dead valley affected the area around it. The area around the valley is dry and desert. The group members also knew how highlands changed the rainfall of various places in Canyon Park. Thirdly, the group learned the climate of different parts of the region. The study helps the group understand more about the concept taught in class. The group was able to know that the climate is affected by the physical features of a place. The physical features that affect climate include; the lake the ranges the valleys. Evaluation The group enjoyed the time and the freedom of movement. Each team member had an opportunity to see the new place. The group also enjoyed the time they shared together, in the discussion. Each member had a chance to learn for him or herself. The members of the group also can meet people with a different culture. Through that, they learned a new way of life. The group also faced challenges when in the field study. The challenges faced by the group include; during the collection of data, people are not willing to give information. The second challenge was a climate of some places is harsh. In the desert environment, the group faced dehydration due to lack of water. There is also high temperatures that are access to the member. The climate caused many of the group members to be united. At times, the group had financial challenges. The group sometimes runs out of finances to support them. If the group gets another chance to do the study, it will consider not using the interview as a method of collecting data since many of the people do not like to be. Secondly, the group will consider an extensive preparation including get good fiancés so that the group will not experience financial constraints again.
