 Global Connections Option 2 States of the world share a common link in one way or the other; perhaps through trading, migration of resident citizens to the other nation, global terrorism and emergence and development of diseases. In this research paper, I’ll highlight the global links that have existed between Canada and other states of the world from personal and other examples. Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia officially also known as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the largest Arab state having an approximate area of, 150,000 km2 which makes the largest part of the Arabian Peninsula just second after Algeria. The bordering countries are Iran, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and United Arab Emirates[Ess06]. Saudi Arabia is the world's leading oil producer and exporter. In fact it controls world's second largest hydrocarbon reserves. Having the world energy reserve, Saudi Arabia is considered as a high economy country and it is the only country that features in the list of G-20 economies. The high ranked economy has been the source of connection with many states of the world. The world economies heavily rely on these oil reserves. Oil fuels industrialization and many states have been linked to each other and particularly in Saudi Arabia due to source of oil. For production to take place, they would need oil. Canada is not exceptional when it comes to the need to have the oil. Intuitively, Saudi Arabia has been part of the connection to many states not to mention Canada[Bot06]. In a rather negative note, countries such as Saudi Arabia has been using the revenues obtained from oil to operate criminal gangs. The Al-Qaida group owes its origin in these Arab states that have control over world’s oil reserves. The returns are good enough to lead to operation of criminal activities within the other state especially in western countries. Terrorism has been part of global connection to all state of the world. The states of the world have been forced to unite to fight against terrorism. Indirectly, Canada and other states are united under the name of national security[Fri12]. The proceeds obtained from the sale of oil have also been used to inspire investment across global north. Many countries including Canada have benefited from oil extracted in Saudi Arabia hence making the global connections. With massive oil reserve, sustainability has been an issue that cannot escape the eyes of many and as such we find our self globally connected when it comes to the issue of oil and sustainability especially with the new wave of interest in renewable energy. Canada relies on the fuels from Saudi Arabia and it is among the countries interested in the change of new renewable energy. The relationship has continued to grow to religious issue as the two countries have a common religious state and hence a positive aspect in terms of continued growth and relationship. Indonesia Indonesia, known officially the Republic of Indonesia is located in the south East Asia, and has population of 252 million people which makes it the fourth populated state. It shares land borders with Malaysia, Papua New Guinea and East Timor. Other countries that border Indonesia include Singapore, Australia, Palau, the Philippines, and Indian and Nicobar Islands. Indonesia is a major founding member of G-20 and ASEAN member of the G-20 economies. The Indonesian economy is listed as the world’s 17th largest based on the GDP criteria[Rob08]. The high GDP shows the economic might. As such, the country has been part of the major consumers of products made from Canada. Through providing market for companies from Canada, it has provided a platform for point of global connection. The labor required in the production and other processes in industrial production is also in plenty owing to the large number of the population. The industries have continued to tap in this cheap and available labor to enhance their production capacities[Sar12]. Just as in other state, technology revolution has been also been parts of the greater global connections. Being post-era information, the exchange of information has been held countries to each other. The cooperation has been indeed the point of connection Canada has with Indonesia. [Ger01]. Political association between Canada and Indonesia has continued to prosper for many years. The relations have been reinforced among other by trade. Countries have different specialization and as such require trading to acquire goods and services that are not produced in their country. In addition, consumer awareness has increased across the globe; many consumers have united to towards being offered quality, sustainable and as well as affordable products. Consumer unites through such unions as the European Union. It is through such unions that countries find themselves united and hence sharing a global link[Bot06]. The increased environmental degradation has generated much concern across the globe. States of the world have joined hand towards negatively impacting environmental practices. As such, global environmental movements have been a uniting factor in Canada and Indonesia as well as other states. The need to combat food shortages has also been part of the global link between Indonesia and Canada. Both countries have doubled the efforts to increase the food across the global population. India India is located in South Asia. By area, it is the seventh-largest country and the second-most populous country in the world with above 1.2 billion people. It is bounded by the Arabian Sea on the south-west, Indian Ocean on the south, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east. India shares land borders with Nepal and Bhutan to the north-east, Pakistan to the west; China; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia[Sar12]. Indian subcontinent has been always identified for its cultural wealth and commercial for much of its long history. Progressively invaded by and brought under the rule of the British, major development was experienced. By the time India became an independent nation in 1947, the country had grown economically. The economic prowess has been point of global link India has with Canada and other states of the world. For instance, through microfinance, India has managed to help other countries realize the economic dreams. In the process, international relations have developed. The large consumer base has arguably led to activism from the broad base consumers. This has been two facets in global connection in that it has been providing labor and at the same time providing platform for consumers both from Canada and India to unite. The connection has also been occasioned by the environmental concerns. Samsung and other industries that produce the products have been compelled by the global concerns on environmental issue to unite and hence the connection between India and other countries such as Canada. Owing to its large population, there has been a need to integrate genetically modified food (GMO) to feed the growing population. GMO has been a debatable issue across the globe generating much interest across the consumers and even states around the globe. The nations have been united together to overcome the challenges of over population and the same time negative consequences brought about by the intervention measures. In terms of need to have GMO, India from its cultural commercial practices and the need to feed the growing population, it has been in the public limelight and many individuals connect with it[Rob08]. Technology revolution has influenced every facets of development and arguably every nation. The need to have the more and timely information has been the reason Canada and India have been together through technological innovation and development. Kenya Kenya is located in East Africa and it’s a major economic hub in this region. The country covers an area of 796 sq km 2 and has a population of over 40 million people. Kenya has been globally linked with many states. The major link is from China geostrategic investment. China has invested massively in the infrastructure in return for market and natural resources. In addition, Kenya has global connection to other states such as Canada. The headquarters of United Nations Development Programme (UNEP) is located in Nairobi. Many states of the world have subscribed to environmental stewardship and hence get linked to Kenya through environmental concerns. Canada is among the states that have been in the forefront in the fight against environmental degradation[Ger01]. Besides, Kenya is an agricultural country. Many of the products are consumed around the globe in such countries such as Canada and Japan. Kenya also exports highly processed goods from such countries. Trade has extended to varied facets and has been a core area that has united Kenya to other states. Therefore, there has been a continued link between the Kenya and other states such as Canada and vice versa. With increased globalization and widespread use of technology, access to information has been paramount. Technology development has been linked global countries as it has been the case in Kenya and Canada. For instance, Kenya would export technology from Canada as other states do export technology from developed nations[Bot06]. International security has been also part of the connection of states of the world. Global terrorism have forced states of the world to work together to curb the threats that have been posed by challenges of security. Kenya would share intelligence information with Canada vis-à-vis. It is through connection of states of the world that terrorism can be fought. There are scores of Kenyan who have migrated to Canada perhaps on working or learning. Kenyan living in Canada is assured of protection and basic needs by the government of Canada. The same case applies to Canada. Such policies are made through liaison of Canada government and the government of Kenya. The states have created a link to be able to work together[Fri12]. Besides, Kenya is a major tourism destination point for many and Canada are not exceptions when it comes to international tourisms. Kenya receives many tourists from Canada and the relationships between the two countries have continued to grow. Some Kenyans also go visiting Canada particularly during the holiday seasons. The cycle continues and defines the global link between these two states. Ghana Ghana is located along Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean and Atlantic Ocean. It has a landmass of 238, 525 km2 with over 38 million people. It is bordered by Burkina Faso in the North and Ivory Coast in the west. Just as other states, Ghana has been trading with other states of the world. It has maintained relationship with countries such as Canada. There have been exports of Coffee and other agricultural products and the same time imports of highly processed goods. Other unique factor that has held relationship between Ghana and states of the world is the emergence and development of the HIV virus. The first cases of HIV are believed to have originated from Central Africa through scientific experiment with Apes. Since then, Ghana and other states of Central Africa have been in the public limelight. Many scientists even from Canada have visited the sites and keep touch in the endeavors to unearth a vaccine to this endemic disease. Global terrorism has brought the countries of the world together as Canada and Ghana have continued to share intelligence information to ensure that terrors gangs do not strike. This has been a concern to many states which indirectly has led to a connection amongst the states. Being at the heart of tropical forests, Ghana has many tourist sites: forests, nature and landscape and the cultural heritage. Tourists from Canada enjoy coming to see the beautiful sceneries in Ghana. The same case applies to Ghanaian residents who go sightseeing in Canada. Migration of people from Canada to Ghana vis-à-vis has also been a point of connection amongst the two states. Some Ghanaian has migrated to Canada to seek greener pastures while others are on their study programs. Some Canadian too has crossed the borders for better or humanitarian jobs. Others are on a government mission. This brings the link between the two states. Thailand Thailand also known as Kingdom of Thailand is central to Southeast Asia. Its immediate maritime boards include countries like Vietnam and Indonesia and India. Though listed as one of the county with the greatest history when it comes to monarchy, the new constitution has given it powers to make the country operates relatively well in terms of economic and social trends[Rob08]. The total population of the country is estimated to be 66 million giving the largest consumer of products made from Canada. It is bordered with economically developed countries such as India hence increasing the pathway for consumption of the goods made from Canada. Besides, the large population helps to provide labor for products made from Canada. Many industries have their international centers at Thailand and the same time has some of the workers have found their way to Canada, where the companies have employed them. The country has not been exposed to international markets as it is the case in America. This means the internal market has provided a platform for products made from Canada hence have a bigger market share[Ger01]. Technology revolution has been also been a part of the greater consumption of the products made from Canada. People are becoming more aware of the changing trends. There is a new wave of interests in getting the right information. This has come with the aesthetic; appeal and comfort which is Canada companies through its research and Development have managed to get so many consumers in Thailand and around the Globe. The companies here have embraced the sustainable development which makes it easier for the country to dispose the electronic content in a manner that it does not cause harm to the environment. This has increased the production and growth prospects. The world is conscious about environmental degradation[Sor04]. The forces brought about environmental concerns have played a bigger role in global connections. Sharing of religious beliefs has also been part of the success story of connection with Thailand. Globally, the states have been alienated economically, politically and in terms of religious beliefs. Sharing a common religion connects the countries together. Besides, there has been consumer activism. The world consumers are demanding better and sustainable products save the threatened natural resources and also avoid exploitation from the local and internal producers. Consumer activists have connected the consumer in Thailand to those in Canada and South Korea.
