Health Assessment and Promotion Name Institution Date Health Assessment and Promotion Overall introduction A personal heath assessment plays an important role in enabling an individual to know about their health and put in place measures to ensure that it is improved. This is considering that everyone is bound to face some challenges when it comes to health issues. Some of the factors that impact negatively on the health of individuals can be avoided while some cannot be avoided. It is also important to note that the knowledge of personal health is important in terms of ensuring that the individuals are able to make informed decision with regards to their health (Pulia, 2012). Several models have been developed for the purposes of enabling the individuals to carry out their own personal health assessment. The quality of life can be improved through the availability of information with regards to health issues. The paper thus discusses the health assessment and promotion with regards to personal health. Discussion The personal self-health assessment model will be carried out through the use of wellness model framework. The wellness model has six main important dimensions that are useful in measuring the growth of an individual and how well the lifestyle of the individual is at any given time (Smith, 2012). The table below is a self-health assessment table for my own personal health. Table of Wellness model framework Social Spiritual I am comfortable with myself and I like myself as a person. I can interact easily with people from different ages, gender, backgrounds, lifestyle and race. I usually contribute some of my free time to the community by participating in different activities with the community. I always balance my time well and I usually sometime for fun. I am always open to different cultures and religions. I always ensure that I maintain high standards of ethics at all times. At times is spend time alone for the purpose of personal reflection. I sometimes participate in activities that are aimed at caring for the welfare of other like charitable activities. I always attend sermons at the local church. Occupational Physical I am fully satisfied with my work. I am also confident of obtaining a job as I always undertake short course which enhances my expertise. I am always quick to recognize opportunities that can lead to the improvements of my knowledge and skills. I am always keen on making steps that will enhance my careers. I don’t exercise regularly. I prefer eating junk food in huge quantities. I don’t consume tobacco or any illegal drugs. I consume alcohol in low levels. I occasionally take time for stress reduction and relaxation. Intellectual Emotional I always learn because I want to do so and I always complete my assignment on time. I always attentive when it comes to listening and observing events around me. I always watch the local as well as the international news in order to stay current with world affairs. I always ask questions and I am open to new experience. I always keep a positive attitude and I have also learnt how to cope with stress. I am always realistic in my expectations and I always take responsibility for my actions. I always prefer functioning independently in most of the situations. I have difficulties with dealing with financial difficulties although I always view challenges as opportunities. The physical exercise plays an important role in terms of enhancing the overall wellness and heath of individuals. Exercises mainly involve physical activities which are usually performed buy individuals. Personally, I usually exercise once in a while by participating in a morning run and going to the gym. This usually lasts for a period of about 30 to 1 hour every week on average. It is recommended that an individual should exercise for a period of at least 2 hours and 30 minutes every week (Börjesson, 2012). This plays an important role in reducing the cases of some diseases like the heart diseases. Moderate exercise plays an important role in reducing the cardiovascular diseases by 17%. On the other hand, regular exercises are also important in reducing the chances of upper respiratory tract infection by 29%. It is also important to note that the chances of dementia are reduced by 59% by the regular exercises. This is an indication that exercises are important in terms of promoting the brain function. Depression can also be reduced through moderate exercises. However, it is also important to note that excessive exercises are also harmful. This is because it may lead to stroke and it also contributes to scarring of the heat and heart rhythm abnormalities. The assessment therefore indicates that I do not do enough exercise as it falls below the recommended number of hours per week. I will be required to do more exercise for the purpose of health benefits in future. I have a high chance of getting cardiovascular diseases due to the few hours spend on exercises. Since I do not carry out enough exercises as recommended, my chance of getting upper respiratory tract infection, depression and dementia are high. However, I have a low chance of stroke since I am not involved in excessive exercises. I therefore need moderate exercises for the purposes of enhancing my overall health and I will have to increase on the number of hours that I exercise every week. This is for the purposes of exercising moderately which is beneficial to the overall health. I would like to improve on the eating of junky food as my consumption is usually high. According to one website called Stop Corporate Abuse, the eating of junky food is not healthy and it contributes to various diseases which include Type 2 Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, liver disease and asthma (Stop Corporate Abuse, 2014). The website also states that the World Health Organization has recognized that fast food is harmful. The quality of the website is high due to the sensitive nature of information that it provides with regards to fasts food. I therefore intend to reduce the intake of fast food by eating more home prepared meal as compared to eating the processed food. The website also recognizes that the products of multinational corporations like McDonalds are responsible for the junky food. Better health channel is also an Australia website that is also against the consumption of junky food by the teenagers and also the other members of the society. The quality of this website is high since it gives some tips with regards to health improvements. The website also advises that is important to cut the intake of sugary food and promote the consumption of fruits (Better Health Channel, 2014). Reducing the size of the meal and ensuring that no meal is skipped is an important advice from the website with regards to reducing the intake of junky food. I will also prioritize reducing my visits to the fast chain food as it encourages the consumption of the junky foods.
