Position paper - Man Date The societal improvement is on the virtue of eliminating racism, reducing poverty, protecting child and women rights and reducing any form of discriminations. The present culture reflects a mix of races, and intercultural mingling. However the modern era have started facing a new kind of problem and strikingly it reflect on to man-to -man proximity. The US government has legalized gay relationship in four jurisdictions namely Canada, Colombia, Ecuador and Uruguay a lot earlier (Pierceson, Crocker, & Schulenberg, 3) and this had an effect in the psychology of people, interpreting a close bond between two men as a gay relationship. The article “The Man Date” by Jennifer8 Lee in The New York Times can raise the issue that the philosophy of man date applied to straight men is irrational and might be harmful for the society. Bondage between men and its interpretation: The last decade witnessed the peak of feminism as an effort to eradicate gender biasness. Women have been paved with opportunities on all sectors and have been encouraged to lead a lifestyle of their own. The present generation women are no less compared to men and enjoy liberty and freedom and are assisted by a flexible society in maintaining their day to day lifestyle. Of late the axe has struck the men. Many questions have been raised in their lifestyle or have been interpreted in a different manner which has created discomfort among this particular gender. Snobs have their different versions of their interpretation in this regard. Some are of the idea that a rendezvous between two straight men is even more harmful for the society. The socializing of men without any purpose is raising the eyebrows of many and the men’s society should simply criticize it. Some men even find the situation to be humorous when various classifications are cited to declare the meeting between two men as “a man date”. Eating together at a bar is not classified to be a man’s date whereas dining together at a restaurant makes people think that the two person in on a date. Similarly walking through a park is considered to be a man’s date whereas jogging is not. Psychologists interpret that the bondage between men is different. If men deal seriously with the issue and in fear of losing social prestige, they try to refrain away from a good friend; it will hamper them and cause adverse effect on them. The need of true friends has been recognized and their absence may affect the society in a large way. It is a proven fact that often men fail to disclose and share everything with the opposite sex, and these irrational complexities as raised in some corners of the society, can even create psychological imbalance. Evidences of men going to dine with each other and eventually leading into social controversies is not a good omen to interpret what lies in the future days. These issues have already stared creating dilemmas in image conscious men about spending leisure times with their best buddies. Generally it is found out that the nature and the characteristic of friendship between men is different to that of women. Men are involved in a larger extent and they involve themselves lot in the relationship of friendship (Weiten, Dunn & Hammer, 283). Men tend to share a lot and the discussions they carry among themselves are far meaningful and involve deep thinking. Society have been discriminating the actions between the acts of men and the women. There have been no questions raised on the lifestyle of the women. Women have been in close contact with the same sex. They publicly flaunt the affection towards each other, and move around in high heels and people remain silent and hardly gauge about their relationship they have among each other. It is with men that the people are showing more concerns. The social and the cultural effect of the society directly affect a man’s personality and it is obvious to hamper in this respect. (Westman, 1) The concern of people have reached such an extent that the anticipation of people have followed with dramatized event. Two men entering into a restaurant are presumed to be gay without any facts or evidence and the ambience of the restaurants are customized without their approval. Two men out for a movie like to reserve a big seat in between them in fear of such notions. Even men are skipping Brunch with their fellow, so that they are not being termed as gay. These acts are simply in conscientious and horrendous for the existence of man’s friendship in an advanced society. Awful declaration have been made in linking up man and women which states that straight men can even leave their friends aside to get in touch with a women.(Lee,1-2) These statements raises question regarding the overall nature of man and is aimed with an insulting tone towards the male gender. Concluding remarks These dogmas and perceptions should be eliminated as it will harm the existence of the term popularly known as “Friendship”. The mass increase of gay relationship cannot be denied in the present society, but it is overstressed and a trace of homosexuality is tried to link up with every close relationship that exists between men. The onus seems to fall on men for every activity. The men’s forum should strictly deal with the issue for the effect of such propaganda to cause havoc throughout. The issue discussed may seem spicy enough but the havoc of such notation may endanger the society. The term “man- dating” should be applicable to only people having different sexual orientation and should not be used as a generalized term in referring to the involvement and the intimacy between friends and make the term friendship between men as simply obnoxious. The fear of such issues is already on the rise and such philosophy should be discouraged for the proper development of the society. The disruption of the issue will affect the young people and the kids in particular as they will create a barrier among themselves in sharing their thoughts and view with the same sex and the friendly relationship that has existed between men for centuries will cease to exist and will be evident only in the history books.
