Comprehensive Sex Education Affiliation Introduction Adolescents need comprehensive sex education to address the root problems that assist the teenagers in making responsible decisions and to keep them healthy and safe. The sex education programs use a holistic approach in providing the young people with accurate, age-appropriate and complete knowledge to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections, unintended pregnancy, and HIV/AIDS. Thus, this brings up the question of what type of sexual education results in the best sexual health outcomes for adolescents. Why? A comprehensive sex education is among the best type that leads to good results in sexual health outcome for the teenagers.
It comprises medically accurate, age-appropriate information on broad topics that relate to sexuality; comprising relationships, decision-making, abstinence, disease prevention, and contraception. As a result, the teenagers can get the opportunity to develop skill along with learning the basics in sexual relationships. National campaigns to prevent unplanned pregnancy have raised more research findings on HIV effectiveness and sex education programs (Sabrina, 2015). The campaigns have worked for both youths; male and female in every ethnic group and for both experienced and inexperienced teens in different communities and different settings.
Thus, the national campaigns have been a successful comprehensive sex education program that has led to many teenagers being aware of the risks associated with sexual relationships. Comprehensive sex education programs lead to abstinence and the use of condoms. Several studies show that the learned lessons in comprehensive sex education programs often get critical for a decision on health during adolescence and beyond. Research show that teenagers receiving education on condoms and contraceptives increase the use of condom at first, but the sex levels remain same.
Abstinence plays a great role in decreasing unwanted pregnancy to teenagers at the age of 15-17. Over the past years, people have conducted great experiments on long-acting birth controls. Sometimes it is a challenge to persuade women and teenagers to take the free-offered intrauterine implants and devices that prevent pregnancy in several years or months. Despite the challenge, the results were immense. According to Colorados Public health and environment department, teenagers’ birthrates across the state decreased by 40% from 2009 to 2013, and the abortions rate fell by 42%.
Similarly, there is a decrease for another group specifically vulnerable to the unplanned pregnancies: under 25 unmarried who have not completed their high school education (Sabrina, 2015). The free programs have been beneficial to the poor women. Private grants funding the programs help to cover some of the teenagers’ free contraception programs. For instance, the changes were particularly exclusive in poor state areas such as Walsenburg where there is job scarcity, and many young women get unplanned pregnancies.
Thus, they took the advantage of free sexual education programs. Conclusion Following the above discussion, comprehensive sex education programs have successfully had good results on teenagers concerning sexual health. It is because they have made the teenagers aware of the associated risks and helped them with birth control pills to avoid unplanned pregnancies. Hence, it is important to adopt the comprehensive sex education following the positive results and findings. References Sabrina T., (2015).
