Gender and sexualities Introduction The lives of the people are strongly influenced by their cultures, sexual orientations, races and social classes. Based on these things different rules and regulations are formed in the society which affect the lives of men and women living in the society. From the very ancient age these rules and regulations are present which differentiate men and women in the society. Cultures of the people differ on the basis of their ethnicity, race, religion, class, age, nation etc. People of various cultures follow different rules and regulations. For this reason believes, values and actions of people of diverse cultures vary from each other. In this essay various theories, philosophies, social norms regarding sexualities and gender will be discussed. In the present scenario the idea and concepts of the people regarding gender are influenced by their professional world and social environment. Various issues of gender and sexualities are discussed in history by sociopolitical and historical theory. Racism and gender discrimination are major problems which are present in many countries of the world. For these issues the lives and activities of the people are influenced a lot. Many movements took place against gender discrimination and racism which helped to change the perception of the people regarding these issues. Question 1 According to me culture plays an important role in shaping up the perception of people regarding gender and sexualities. The lives of men and women are strongly affected by cultural rules and regulations. Different cultures have various expectations from men and women. In a conservative culture women are expected to do emotional work where as men are expected to do physical work. In this type of culture men are expected to work and earn money where as women are expected to look after the family. People of male gender are considered more powerful than female. For this reason male people dominated the society. The cultures which have accepted modern principles and thoughts regarding sexualities and genders treat men and women equally. People belonging from this type of cultures expect that rules and regulation will be equal for both men and women. Society will not discriminate people on the basis of their gender. The cultures which incorporate several modern principles prevent domination of male in the society. This strongly affects the lives of male and women belonging from the society. Both of these genders are expected to perform same kind of work. But in many male dominated societies the cultural norms and regulation make the lives of the women very tough. They are expected to work as per the wish of the male gender. In the modern time cultures are changing rapidly. Many new norms and practices are developing which are accepted by the cultures. To cope up with social changes people are accepting new norms. Earlier marriage was only confined between two opposite genders. But now a day marriage also takes place in between to same gendered and this is accepted in many cultures. According to Queer Theory each sex has some certain characteristics of its own. Girls are expected to be polite and boys are expected to be spontaneous. Both of these things are required for developing a good society. There are many elements present in both the genders which help to see the genders collectively (Gauntlett, 2015). According to this theory, in many cases it is observed that wealthy and white males hold powerful position in the society and they decide normal and abnormal things of the genders. The culture of these people supports male domination in the society which affects the lives of the people. Question 2 The issue of black feminism affected the lives of men and women. This is an important contemporary issue of sexism or racism. The black women were not considered as women and they were discriminated from other people for their black complexion. From the very ancient time the black woman were tortured a lot by white people. The legal system and culture supported the torture done with black female. They were oppressed in the society on the basis of their gender, race, sex etc. For a long period of time injustice was continued with them which influenced them to revolt against the society. The black women of U.S united and did a movement against racial discrimination. Women’s liberation movement also played an important role in developing women civil rights (Taormino, 2013). The movement continued for a long time and slowly rights and regulations were established in USA against racial discrimination. The white men were not permitted to sexually assault black women. This movement changed the lives of men and women living in U.S. Both black and white people are perceived equally as per the rules and regulations of the state. Therefore domination of white people against the black was restricted by law. Another contemporary issue which affected the lives of men and women is colonialism. Europe expanded its colonies in different parts of the world and dominated the people living the colonies. Europe made a social, political, economic relationship with the colonies. Social class system was developed in the colonies for European rules (White, 2010). The cultures, societies and classes of the colonies were strongly influenced by European nation. This changed the lifestyle of the people residing in colonies. For developing my career as business administrator I need to be aware of these issues which affected the lives male and women. By understanding these issues I will be able to understand the impact of culture, gender, racism on people. Question 3 This course has benefited me a lot to develop a connection between my own cultural experience and the cultural experience of other people who belonged from different races, religions, nations, age etc. I belong from a conservative society where mail people play dominating role in every field. The culture influences the behavior of the people. In my culture religion and class are consider very important factor in differentiating gender and sexuality. It is believed that male people have more physical abilities than women. But this course has helped me to understand that by discriminating people on the basis of different factors, I will hamper the productivity of the company. People belonging from different races and cultures have many unique characteristics. If they are combined together then productivity of the company can be increased. People of some cultures discriminate people on the basis of ethnicity (Taormino, 2013). They put more importance on white people than black. As a business administrator I have to work with the people belonging from different ethnical background. With the help of this course I came to understand the difference of my culture in respect with the cultures of people having different ethnical background. My experience relate to culture helps me to have a clear knowledge regarding the position of men and women in the society. The modern culture supports that in the men and women should be treated equally in the society and the professional field. Understanding the cultural experience of different other people help me to behave with them properly and communicate with them as per their social norms and regulations (Charleswel, 2014). The course also helped to know different things which are incorporated in various cultures to cope up with modern society. Some things are not permitted in my culture but those things are accepted in other cultures (Musser, 2014). This course facilitated me in having knowledge about the impact of culture, race, ethnicity etc. on American people. Based on this knowledge I can differentiate the things which are practiced or not practiced in my country. Question 4 My culture is very much strict and conservative. Gender discrimination is present in the society. One major example of my culture is that the society is dominated by male gender. Female have to follow strong rules and regulation of the society. They are not allowed to do many things which are performed by the male people. The culture of my country supports this gender discrimination. Female are considered as inferior to men (McCune, 2014). People of female gender are not encouraged to get involved in politics and professional field. For this type of culture woman living in Middle East countries get very limited freedom. They tend to follow the orders of male people. The culture of the American states is very much different from the culture of Middle East countries. Racism is present in the culture of this country. People living in U.S tend to differentiate each other on the basis of their race and ethnicity. Black people were considered as inferior than white. Discriminating people on the basis of their ethnicity and race prevailed in U.S for a long period of time. This affected the values, actions and believes of the people. The white people tortured the blacks and oppressed them in every possible ways. The legal system of the country also permitted this (Smith, 2014). After many struggles the black people were able to establish their rights and freedom in U.S. In future I want to become an influential Manager of the company. I will try to increase the productivity of the company by establishing equality among all the people. At present gender discrimination is practiced in my organization for which women do not get the opportunities to utilize their talents in for the growth of the company (McGuire, 2010). For this reason I want to establish an organizational culture in which people of different culture, religion, class, gender etc. will be welcomed and their talents and skills will be utilized properly. Question 5 This course has helped me to enhance my sense of values, ethics and social responsibilities regarding national, local or global issues. My future career decision is strongly influenced by this. By studying this course I came to know about the influence of age, gender, culture, ethics and race on people of different places. Based on these factors the behaviors and activities of men and woman differ from each other. Queer Theory helps me to understand the people of different cultures, race, gender etc. have unique characteristics (Collins, 2001). When these characteristics are combined together then productivity and performance of the people can be improved. Discriminating people on the basis of their background, gender, ethics etc. create problem and tension on the society. With the help of sociopolitical and historical knowledge regarding gender and sexualities I am able to improve my values regarding different types of people. Racism and gender discrimination have become global issues. These issues differentiate men and women on the basis of different grounds. This course has helped me to understand that as a business professional it is my responsibility to motivate people for well in their career. Discriminating people on these grounds create negative impacts on the society. Presently I am holding the position of Business Administrative Major. By implementing this vast knowledge regarding gender and sexualities I will be able to develop a very effective business process which will help me to increase the productivity of the company. As a result of this I can acquire the position of the manager. Conclusion Differences in gender and sexualities are influenced by culture, social environment and rules and regulation of a state. For these differences the behaviors, actions and values of people vary a lot. This essay highlighted that gender discrimination is present from the historical time. Culture of the people influenced the growth of gender discrimination. People are also discriminated from each other on the basis of race, class, religion, ethnicity etc. The essay focused on the issues that in U.S race and ethnicity are the vital things for differentiating one person from other. Queer Theory has been highlighted in this essay for supporting feminism. The theory also stated that gender discrimination is not beneficial for the state or society. Some examples were provided in the easy. The examples show cultural differences which are present in different states and according to the differences behaviors, values and actions of the people vary from country to country.
