Chinese women can now enjoy social pressures as limitations have been withdrawn. Like in all other societies in our current generation, the role of women is a debate in the Chinese society too. The rapid population in china has brought about many changes that have touched on the role of women. According to United Nations Programme’s Human Development Report (2010), china received Gender Equality Ranking of 38. Despite the ranking, number of women in top leadership positions was still low. Very few women were found in the top positions in many organizations.

This indicates that there is still gender disparity within the Chinese society which ought to be changed. Notably, the Central Government realized about this disparity in the civil sectors and it encouraged the local government to employ more women in the top leadership positions. Despite the high standards of education, China’s society still favors males at the expense of females (Hao & Chen 2013). The one- child policy has resulted to immense pressure on young couples whereby the only grandson has to look after his family and elderly grandparents.

According to research conducted by Lee (1995), results reveal that there was much inequality in the Chinese education system. In all the levels of education, there were more males than females. The prevailing factors for the results were many. For instance, it was found that many females were left at home to assist in the house chores while some would accompany their mums to farms. Others indicated that some parents were not ready to let their daughter attend classes. Most males were not given any work and therefore had the chance to go to school.

This led to the difference in numbers of males and females in schools. This resulted to more men gaining access to education and hence men becoming the sole breadwinners (Kuah-Pearce 2008). The few females who went to school could not compete for positions as they were outnumbered
