A Descriptive Essay about Human Rights Campaign Introduction The organization named Human Rights Campaign is working in order to promote equality in the society. The organization is targeting to achieve total equality and justice in the community with a special focus on the rights of lesbian, bisexual, transgender and gay people. The organization is working to assist people who have a culturally unacceptable agenda but their purpose is not legally or ethically wrong. The persons are facing problems because the society is not ready to accept their ideas. The organization has two distinct offshoots that operate in close proximity in order to fulfill the common goals and objectives but at the same time, they maintain their separate identities as well[Hum14]. Human Rights campaign has two functional divisions and one is called HRC Foundation and it primarily focuses on research activities and educating people on how the nature of human rights is changing in the modern era of the 21st century. The second division goes by the name of Human Rights Campaign and it works as a political action group that looks to support the rights of suppressed people with the help of nonviolent demonstrations and moments. Additionally, it is engaged in the application of power politics so that it can pressurize the political leaderships of the countries to respond favorably towards their demands. The most powerful people in the world often say that the NGOs come down to blackmailing when they have something to obtain. The story of HRC is not expected to be different in this regard. The NGO has to use every means to grow its political power in order to remain effective with respect to the attainment of its goals. The HRC is a non-profit organization and it is majorly funded by people at top positions who support its ideology. The political action committee is also responsible for raising funds for sponsoring the operations of the organization. HRC is also engaged in working against hate and abhorrence based crimes in the society. Furthermore, it is supporting multiple awareness campaigns that are designed in order to tell people about sources of contracting HIV and AIDS. The group is guiding people about ways in which these deadly diseases can be avoided[www14]. The organization is fundamentally focusing to promote habit of having safe sex and clean blood transfusion because these are the most common reasons of abovementioned conditions. The campaign is implanting an element fear of fear about the illness by enlightening the public about a painful fact that there is no turning back after catching AIDS and therefore, it should and must not be taken and treated as a common cold. The organization is supporting the idea of responsible enjoyment in all people regardless of sexual orientation. HRC is a big and the most significant supporter of nondiscriminatory employment and that is why, its charter clearly supports the application of Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA) The organization’s charter states that the NGO will work in terms of promoting gender equality and will also promote harmony in people with different sexual orientations as all of them are humans and every other issue becomes secondary. The organization urges public and government to consider everyone as equal because they are humans at the basic level and it is an enough reason for respecting them [htt14]. HRC is headed by President Chad Griffins whereas; the strategic direction of the organization is managed by trio of boards. The top most is the Board of Directors which is responsible for overseeing the entire operation. The second one is the HRC Foundation Board that is accountable for managing research and educational activities while, it is also supposed to raise funds for the organization. The Foundation Board is also authorized to make changes in existing organizational policies and make new ones as well. Finally, the Board of Governors manages the day to day operations and aligns them to the overall strategic plans of the entire unit. The organization’s contributions are identified as notable in terms of powering up the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. The moment resulted in increased power of the government to prosecute and punish any violent acts that are taken in response to one’s gender, religion, ethnicity, race and sexual orientation. The former President of HRC, Joe Solomonese said that it is a great achievement because for the first time in the history, our country is willing to protect the rights of suppressed human beings. The organization has recently started working on the problem of discriminative attitudes and behaviors that are known exist when it comes to providing healthcare to gays and lesbians. The organization argues that all medical professionals have taken the vow of serving all of the suffering humans without any discrimination and how can medics’ hands trample upon doing their duty to a man or woman with different sexual orientation than theirs’. The organization has lately started to publish Healthcare Equity Index which is used to classify healthcare facilities according to their ability to provide services without discrimination of any kind. The publication has transformed into a standard that the hospitals are trying to conform to because otherwise they risk losing better share of their clientele to other facilities which are rated higher on the report. HRC has also worked with Obama’s team on the project which was designed to increase the rights of gay and lesbian couples to have equal visits to hospitals as straights does[www141]. Historically, the organization was founded by Steve Endean who previously established Gay Rights National Lobby in 1978. He went on to create Human Rights Campaign Fund political action committee in 1980 and the committee worked for sponsoring electoral runs of politicians who supported gay philosophy. However, in 1989, the Lobby decided to retrench and emerged as a better and effective entity that encompassed research and education of the public about less discussed issues of the community. The change of direction served the organization well and it helped the institution in gathering increasing support from the country. In 1992, the HRC decided to support Bill Clinton in his presidential run. In 1995, the organization decided to change its name from Human Rights Campaign Fund to only Human Rights Campaign. In 2002, HRC purchased a building in Washington to house its Headquarters. The year of 2005 witnessed the introduction of Religion and Faith Program by the organization in order to fight religious discrimination in the community. The organization wholeheartedly supported the concept of same-sex marriage in 2010 before its legalization by District of Columbia. HRC is continuing its fight for the rights of Lesbian, Gay, Transgender and bisexual people. The organization is also active for providing protection to the rights of patients who are suffering from HIV or AIDS. Conclusively, it can be established that the HRC is working day in and day out regarding protection of rights of suppressed people. The organization is working for the protection of every suppressed human being in the country. The historical success of the organization is tremendous and because of this reason, it can be surely assumed that HRC is successful in achieving the stated goals and objectives. The most important thing is that the organization has moved forward from one aim to another without really stopping. The organization is continually serving the humanity and that is what matters at the end of the day.
