LGBT High School Students Introduction From a descriptive point of view, LGBT is an abbreviation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender. On whole, the issue pertaining to LGBT has been largely discussed and debated in the global standpoint. That is been the case there is various critics and supporters of the subject matter. There are a number of reasons as to why support group work for LGBT. With this understanding, this paper critically presents a discussion on the reasons as to why support groups work for LGBT. Inclusively, the paper provides eight group lesson plans enhanced towards shedding more light on the subject matter. How and why does a Support group work for LGBT? Basically, there are several factors behind support groups working for LGBT. To start with, such groups enhance comfort to the students through the provision of the necessary help in terms of guidance and counseling. To some extent, this promotes self confidence and in that manner creating an atmosphere through which the learners do not feel discriminated by their fellow colleagues as well as teachers (Baur, 2008). Through guidance and counseling, the support groups ensure that students understand more in relation to LGBT and the way forward towards achieving success in life. A comparable reason as to why support group work for LGBT is to develop a sense of equality among all people. From a broad perception, it is agreeable that different support groups aims at helping LGBT in order to ensure that the standards of life are raised accordingly. In that case, working for the LGBT considerably determines the manner through which the lives of those people will be in future (Ramified & Deicer, 2003). Through encouraging them on their significance in life as human beings, support groups endorse approaches through which they establish a benchmark critical for learning and living. With the different support groups that exist in the present day, each has a role to play towards enhancing safety and equality in terms of the provision of education and other essentials in life (Hurst, 2001). A comparable reason as to why support group works for the LGBT is to in order to mingle with other youths and in that way making sure they share their secretes and emotions. On the whole, this considerably helps to avoid being isolated by the straight humans. Support groups as well deals with discrimination and recognition of LGBT students. Based on the support groups, an emphasis based on the fact that people should recognize LGBT as people with the human rights is enhanced accordingly. What is more, they also educate LGBT on their health issues, their source and practices. Such practices make the LGBT learners to understand that they are not the only people affected with such problems in life. They provide LGBT examples of people who are successful in life, have families and have their own business (Ramified & Deicer, 2003). Through the provision of such examples, the victims are encouraged, and this makes them to value their life, education, and also the little things they do. Support groups work for LGBT with the intention of informing tutors on the best approaches, which should be put into consideration towards enhancing rights and equality in the long run (Baur, 2008). If truth be told, support groups discourage any form of criticism towards the LGBT students, and this is enhanced through training teachers on the best practices they should set while teaching students perceived with different issues. These groups challenge hatred on LGBT people and emphasize that teachers should deal with this for better performance in schools. There should part of syllabus covering on LGBT to appreciate them and make them know that LGBT is not someone choice is real. Students should be given role models who have made it in life despite their sexuality and should be shown that hard work pays (Ramified & Deicer, 2003). Community resources such as adventure for LGBT will help them in mingling with other homosexual peoples. LGBT also have problem of self esteem once they realize their sexuality they tend to think how people will take them .They become confused and embarrassed but once they meet other LGBT they feel well (Hurst, 2001).They become disappointed when they meet other people who discriminate them in school and that is why these support group work with them. LGBT are faced with urge to attempting suicide to end their life ,because they feel that no one is on their side .They thus see suicide as the only solution but this support come up and tries to show them that they are on their side and will offer solution to whatever problem they face. LGBT end up dropping out of school because of being violated their rights by both the students and the teachers who mistreat them because of their sexuality (Remafedi, and Pediatrics, 1987). They feel hated by everyone and sometimes their parent fail to pay their school fees making them drop out of school. These support groups brings hope of continuing with their education to them by paying their school fees and educates high school students on the effect of discriminating anyone. Isolation is another issue facing LGBT they always isolate themselves from other students because of fear of being known their sexuality (Hetrick, Martin 1987) .Support groups tells them the importance of socializing with other students Cruelty from other students and teachers either verbally or non verbally irritate them making them feel hated and end up isolating themselves from them, but these support groups helps by talking to the students and the teachers to respect every one despite their sexuality .In any case someone should not be a factor in education. Most LGBT students end up homeless because of being chased away by their parents once they realize their sexuality, they parents bring in unnecessary quells to victimize them so that they can run away (Hedrick & Martin, 2001). These support groups makes effort by talking to their parents to accept them back and tries to educate the society on the dangers of discrimination on LGBT. 8 Group Lesson Plans There are various lesson plans that have been suggested by different theorists being helpful to LGBT students. Such group lesson plans comprise of the following segments. To start with, the lesson plans do not allow discrimination of such students by the other in any way. Therefore, the first lesson plan is the avoidance of corruption and discrimination among LGBT learners by the other normal students. The second lesson plan put more emphasis on the significance of equality in education and other essentials, which determine the growth into a successful human being. On the third lesson plan is the manner through which support groups provide guidance and counseling activities towards promoting motivation. The fourth lesson plan aims at creating a sense of comfort and love to the LGBT students (Hedrick & Martin, 2001). On the fifth lesson plan, understanding the nature of creation is detailed. The sixth lesson plan focuses on the importance of each person in the society regardless of some bodily problems. The seventh lesson plan acquired from support group is the use of talents and skills to nurture for tomorrow. The final lesson plan is the significance of all people irrespective of their status.
