Preventing a crime before it happens(FBI 2003) Abstract: Hate Crime in Ilford Essex Hate Crime has increased in the last 10 years in Ilford. This area of London has a very high racially mixed population (Statistics 2001). It's a continuing changing diversity in cultures; in addition to the economic crisisi during the past ten years are two potential elements in sociopsychological conditions in creating hate crimes. (FBI 2003)As cultures differ, the concept of hate and fear are interpretated differently.
It will be shown why this area has specifically suffered from racial and religious hate crimes. Government Acts of 1998 and 2003 will be illustrated to show how our concept of biased crimes has broaden. (Criminology…. 2011)Controversial reports say hate crime have decreased, the methods of data reporting are not common practice.( 'Criminology…' 2011)Police reporting started in 2008. Many say that this is a poor representation of the actual number of hate crimes that occur. Fear as it crosses cultural boundries will be proved to show that the actual statistics are false.. The different data sites will be presented.
They are an instigator in contributing to fear. Police education and preparation to deal with diverse cultures as Ilford must include both the victim and the perpetrator. Ilford has an infrastructure keeping the police force up to date as the population grows and changes. Different existing programs will be presented.(Hate Crime Reporting 2010) As cultures change, victims suffer in different ways. We will discuss the psychology of fear. The concept of fear impedes many from reacting. Defining fear depends on race and religion.
Reasons for reporting and how victims report change. This is a social problem that Ilford has addressed through outreach programs. (Shirinian 2011)Work still needs to be done The last part of the paper will explore the different projects Ilford has into place for the victims; and the work that is being done by the police to make it easier to report.('Hate Crime Reporting' 2010) It will also be discuss what is being done to define potential hate groups in order to prevent the crime from happening.(FBI 2003)( Shirinian 2011) To conclude how is a city like Ilford planning for the future?
