One of the theories why women are effective in managing organizations is anchored on the argument that since they are central managers of families and the communities they belong they must be adept at unlocking the human development potential. However, the United Nations noted that unless they are provided equal opportunity and access to financial, social and health services and that they be allowed to be involved in decision-making, especially in those that affect their lives, then such potential can never be realized.
Recent developments across the globe show a promising trend. The emergence of the globalizing forces such as technology, information and the integration of the international market has brought about far-reaching changes in the way the world views and assimilated the concepts of liberalism, feminism and equality. These have been exported and taken root in many countries, including those that have traditionally closed and conservative societies. This is best seen in the area of women shattering the glass ceiling in the corporate world.
Female leadership has been gaining ground. The lives of women have significantly improved, underscoring the truth to these points. For example, in a study undertaken by Buyukbay (2010), it was reported that: Between the years of 1970-2005, social indicators showed that there was an improvement in women’s overall quality of life, and indicated that women’s participation in the labor force has risen moderately.
