Abstract The abstract contains necessary elements for the research though it exempts others. The elements consists of; aims and objectives, background, design, method, results, conclusions, relevance to clinical practice. The abstract excludes important elements such as implications and recommendations of the research. Introduction 3.1 Statement of the problem The purpose of the research is to assess the efficiency of nurse-led patient-centered asthma educational programmes and home environmental control behaviours of parents in managing children with moderate or severe asthma. 3.2 Hypothesis or research question(s) The study hypothesis was primarily aimed at assessing whether patient centered educational programmes can be effective in improving asthma morbidity than a mere routine educational programme. From the research the dependent variable comprises of; changes in home environmental control behaviors among parents and independent variable is level of improvement in asthma signs and symptoms among children in relation to patient-centered asthma education programmes and routine asthma education. 3.3 Literature review Literature review covers an extensive body of knowledge in relation to the topic. From the research it is clear that self management and health educational programmes based on international or national asthma treatment guidelines tends to improve the health of asthmatic children. Additionally, past studies indicates that promotion of good environmental behaviors is essential to for parental management of asthma among their children. 4. Method 4.1 Protection of participants’ rights The participant’s were recruited from two medical centres approved by institutional review boards and before the children were recruited the researchers received parental consent. This was mainly done to safe guard the privacy of information gathered. 4.2 Research Design The research design utilized quantitative research methodology through the use of a quasi-experimental, non-equivalent control group design. 4.3 Population and sample Final sample comprised of 75 parents and their 75 children. Experimental group had 38 parents who took part in a 12 week patient centered asthma education programme which was conducted by well trained asthma education nurses. The comparison group had 37 parents and their children were subjected to routine asthma education. 4.4 Recruitment Participants were recruited through purposive sampling from the asthma clinics of two medical centers in central Taiwan. 4.5 Data collection Data was collected through parental self reported behaviours (HECL) of their children signs, symptoms after the intervention and during three months asthmatic educational programme. 5. Results (5 marks) 5.1 Data Analysis SPSS for windows version was used to analyze data, descriptive statistics was used to analyze demographic characteristics, byinferential statistics i.e., chi-square and independent t-test was used to analyze the homogeneity of characteristics in the experimental and comparison groups .HECL was used to evaluate effectiveness of patient centered programme using the general linear model. 5.2 Findings Results showed that patient-centered asthma education programmes effectively improved parent’s household dust as well as cleaning behaviours relative to the pretest and comparison group hence enabling parents to manage their asthmatic children more easily. 6. Discussion (6 marks) 6.1 Implications and recommendations Reduction of animal allergens in the homes does not improve asthma control rather keeping the pets outside the house was more recommendable. Additionally, it is necessary for efficient teaching practices to be developed in future. 6.2 Presentation The research provides additional knowledge to the existing clinical studies in relation to patient centered care through continuous monitoring and self-management behaviours in a home environment in relation to parental management of asthmatic children Qualitative research critique Title: Parental Perceptions of Their Child’s Asthma: Management and Medication Use Abstract: The article abstract contains relevant information related to the research, though the author excluded relevant elements. The abstract contains introduction, research design methods, discussion and recommendations. Elements such as data analysis, literature review, and implications of the research limitations of the study as well as procedures involved in collecting data collection were left out in the abstract. Introduction: 3.1 Statement of the problem The main aim of the research was to investigate parental experiences, perceptions in handling their children with Asthma. 3.2 Hypothesis or research question(s) The research mainly discusses various concepts related to parental asthma management in their children and how well to deal with this condition (Kathleen, Ann, Lorrie, & Harriet, pp.118-123, 2003). 3.3 Literature review The literature review explores an intensive analysis on qualitative research design done by health care providers in relation to everyday parental care and experiences with their children suffering from this disorder (Kathleen, Ann, Lorrie, & Harriet, pp.118-123, 2003).. 4. Method 4.1 Protection of participants’ rights Participant’s signed a confidentiality contract and the study was approved by Institutional Review Board to safe guard the participant information. 4.2 Research Design Qualitative research design was used in which semi structured, face to face interviews were used to collect data from the participants. 4.3 Population and participants A sample of 18 mothers with children of age 2-18 were selected in which enrollment was done on the basis of research theme achievement. 4.4 Recruitment Purposeful sampling strategy was used to select the participants from various clinical practice settings. The participants were recruited from their own homes after informed interviews based on their children age, illness, severity, illness duration, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. 4.5 Data collection Data was collected through interviews guided by open ended questions which was recorded on a tape and transcribed. To ensure accuracy of information and minimize bias selected families interacted with experienced nurses who had been trained on asthma symptoms, management, medication and treatment (Kathleen, Ann, Lorrie, & Harriet, pp.118-123, 2003). . 5. Results 5.1 Data Analysis Data was analyzed using a theoretically clustered matrix which allowed a thumbnail profile analysis of each informant as well as providing an initial test on the relationships between the responses to various questions. 5.2 Findings Parents acknowledged their experience with their asthmatic children since it gives them sound basis of asthma management. Parent’s valued the relationships with their specialists as it was clear that this specialists offered educational programs that which were important for improved self treatment as well as management (Kathleen, Ann, Lorrie, & Harriet, pp.118-123, 2003). Discussion 6.1 Implications and recommendations Parents with children suffering from this disorder need to have a working knowledge on the care of their children. Recognizing and respecting the parent’s knowledge will play fundamental role in helping asthmatic children reach their goal. 6.2 Presentation The article provides important information that is essential for nurses in terms of managing asthmatic children as well as patient’s. Literature Review The main aim of this Literature review is to analyse how effective parents can manage and treat their asthmatic children through proper medication and management. To prove this concept, the literature review will analyse the impact of parental experiences, attitudes, beliefs and home environmental nurse led patient’s education programs on management of asthmatic children. Introduction: Over the past years adequate treatment of asthma actually depends on accurate assessment as well as intervention by the child’s parents. This implies that parents’ attitudes, beliefs, knowledge and proper drug administration play a fundamental role towards effective management of asthmatic children. Additionally, it is clear that Patient-centred asthma educational programmes effectively improve home environmental control behaviours of parents with their asthmatic children hence creating a humble environment for asthmatic children as well as their management. Theme one: adequate treatment of asthma actually depends on accurate assessment as well as intervention by the child’s parents Studies indicate that proper treatment of asthma depends on accurate assessment as well as intervention by the parent’s child. Past studies done on parental experiences in handling their asthmatic children indicates that parent’s who have positive beliefs and attitudes towards their children as well as knowledge tends to discover early stages of their children conditions hence offering better treatment to their children in terms of treatment and drug administration. Parental information knowledge about asthma medications is more important since research indicates that lack of knowledge and confusion on medications were considered as key factors hindering successful asthma treatment (Kathleen, Ann, Lorrie, & Harriet, pp.118-123, 2003). From research it is clear that diagnosis of asthma, knowledge about the nature of disease, resulting symptoms, asthma management, medications, parent/provider relationship, treatment expectations and the overall impact on the family are very important to parents in relation to management of asthmatic children. It is evident that health care providers who incorporate information given to them by parents in regards to their children tend to successful create a mutually formulated plan for their children. Additionally, studies indicates that Parent’s value the relationships with their specialists as it is clear that this specialists offered educational programs which were important for improved self treatment as well as management. Theme two: Patient-centred asthma educational programmes have a positive impact on parental child asthma management practices. From the studies it is evident that parents who attend educational programmes organized by the nurses in regards to home environment practices tends to develop positive control behaviours. The positive control behaviours are associated with proper management of asthmatic children since such environments aid a quick and better treatment of children suffering from this disorder. Research indicates that improvement of home environmental control behaviours among parents creates a comfortable environment for children suffering from this disorder. This implies that Patient centered programs are very important when it comes to managing asthmatic children as parents who are involved in such programmes gain knowledge as well as training on the required environment for their asthmatic children(Kathleen, Ann, Lorrie, & Harriet, pp.118-123, 2003). It is evident that involvement of asthma educators with parents in terms of improving the health of their asthmatic children not only empowered partnership between the nurses and their clients rather is was proved to have a fundamental effect since it empowered parents to change their behaviours hence improving the health outcomes of their children. Conclusion Parents who have children suffering from asthma should ensure that they put in place a proper environment which improves the health of their children avoiding acts that are associated with increasing asthmatic conditions. Additionally, parents should develop positive attitudes in terms of managing their asthmatic children through offering proper medication and giving emotional support to their children having this disorder. Through, this parent’s can improve the health of their children as well as giving hope to them.
