Assignment: Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination Question Other than Mac, give some other examples ofhow substitute currency is usedThe other examples of how substitute money is used in the prisons include: payment using fillets of oily dark-fleshed fish, the use of books of stamps, and the use of PowerBars or cans of tuna.a. Give a specific illicit example of how it is usedThe Macks could be used to buy illicit goods such as stolen foods and home-brewed prison hooch. Additionally, the cans of tuna could be used to make makeshift knives which could pose a danger to the inmates.b. Give a specific example of an (arguably) legal useLegally, the Macks could be used to pay for services such as shoe-shining, cleaning of the cells, in the ironing of clothes and in trimming of one’s beards by other prisoners engaged in doing that kind of work.

It could also be used to buy food and toiletries.c. How would you combat illicit use? This can be combated via several ways. First, by dispossessing all the prisoners of all the stocks of mackerel they have and prohibiting them from possessing any cash. Secondly, if at any time they possess cash either from the jobs they do or from family members who visit them, I’ll ensure that those are used strictly in buying legal food and toiletries.d. How would you / should you regulate arguable legal use?

Since some prisoners tend to conduct trade amongst themselves of goods they buy from the prison commissary, I’ll ensure that guards respond promptly to limit the amount of such items that in mates can stockpile. Consequently, those found bartering their fellows for mackerels would risk their credit for good behavior by being isolated in the “Special Housing Unit” (Radford, 1945). I could also set up a consulting firm to offer professional advice to inmates and soon-to-be convicted prisoners about the benefits of putting the mackerels into proper legal use.
