It, therefore, transpires that women perceive a stigma attached to the problem of DV and do not want to admit it.

Some may also hesitate to openly come with the admission of DV because of fear of retaliatory action from their partners. On the other hand, some women may nourish a notion that they deserve the “abuse” and hence they not deserve any “help” (p.1123). In the instant case, it appears that the woman in question is a victim of DV but she does not want to admit it. Besides, she appears to be harboring the notion that somehow she is at fault for the violence and that may be the reason why she does not want to disclose the fact.

My approach in this case will be to frankly ask her the real issue that she confronts, and whether her partner has been abusive. b) I will also explain to her that it is not her fault if her partner has been abusing her and that she needs to take proper treatment and seek further counseling. Besides, I will ascertain whether she needs any legal help or other types of guidance. I will also explain to her that she need not feel any guilt about her spouse abusing her and she must take medical and legal assistance for addressing the issues. c) Subsequently, I will proceed to record the history of the victim as well as try to evaluate her “emotional safety” (p.1125). I would also attempt to find out how long the abuse has been going on and any relationship problem they have.

I will also attempt to determine the type of risk that the victim is exposed to. d) I will examine the victim for specific bodily injuries, bruises or other marks on the neck as well other parts of her body. I would also evaluate the emotional framework of the patient so determine that she does not have any serious mental traumas or other types of problems that may require the intervention by a psychologist. I will also determine the need for any legal assistance in the case.e) I will document the interview in a private space so as to offer maximum sense of privacy and safety to the victim and she gains the confidence to speak frankly.

The history will initially be recorded on a tape and later transcribed. The physical examination findings will be recorded on paper. I will also offer her appropriate referrals for treatment of the physical injuries. In addition, I will endorse appropriate recommendation for counseling or psychological interventions if necessary.
