The firm chosen here for analysis is Bank of America .The 2011 annual general meeting of shareholders held at the auditorium of office in Bank of America center, Charlotte, North Carolina is the basis of the financial analysis. Bank of America has its headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. According to the annual repot 2010 the bank operates in all 50 states of America, in the District of Columbia and also exists in more than 40 countries. Bank of America is a member of the Dow Jones industrial index. The retail banking section of the bank covers around 80% of the US population and has around 57 million customers. The year 2010, according to the annual report, reported a net loss of $ 2235 millions, while in 2009 the bank reported a profit of $ 6276 millions. The per-share data of the firm reports a negative marking in the last two financial years 2009 and 2010. Similarly the market price of the stock has decreased in comparison to the previous year and the present market price is $ 13.34. These auditors provide a clean opinion on the financial statements as they are in done with the accordance of the law of the state and they value the client’s long standing relationship. PwC values their clients and they share a long and committed relation with their clients. The financial statements of Bank of America provide materialistic and factual evidence of subsequent events. The bank also provides a consolidated five year summary of the selected financial data in order to provide accurate results. The bank is divided into six business segments, which consists of deposits, global card services, home loans & insurance, global commercial banking, GBAM and GWIM. “Results of our operations through six business segments: Deposits, Global Card Services, Home Loans & Insurance, Global Commercial Banking, GBAM and GWIM, with the remaining operations recorded in all Other” (Bank of America, 2010). The auditors provide a clear report of the firm and they dedicate their report to the society. The reason for the bank’s downfall which has reduced its profits in the year 2010 was a decrease in the growth of assets. Similarly the bank has raised large amounts of debt in the last financial year and aims to improve its financial and capital strength. Bank of America is the one of the earth’s major financial organizations, serving individual customers, small- and middle-marketplace business and big businesses with a complete variety of asset management, investing, banking and other fiscal and risk management goods and services. The business offers unmatched expediency in the US, serving around 57 million customer and small business relations with around 5,900 retail banking offices and about 18,000 ATMs and award-winning online banking by way of 29 million active consumers. End period of these three quarters are, 2011 Q1 is 3/31/2011, 2011 Q2 is 06/30/2011 and 2011 Q3 is 09/30/2011. Total Assets of these three quarters are, 2,219,628.0; 2,261,319.0 and 2,274,532.0 respectively. Total Liabilities of these three quarters are 1,989,376.0; 2,039,143.0 and 2,043,656.0 respectively. During the period of 2010 company used net cash of $30.3 billion for investing activities that primarily for net purchase of AFS debt security. $157.9 billion in 2009 used for this purpose. “During 2010, the net cash used in financing activities of $65.4 billion primarily reflected the net decreases in long-term debt as maturities outpaced new issuances. During 2009, net cash used in financing activities was $199.6 billion reflecting the declines in commercial paper and other short term borrowings due, in part to lower Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) balances as a result of our strong liquidity position and a decrease in long term debt as maturities outpaced new issuances” (Bank of America, 2010). 13) What are the 2 largest items included in cash from investing activities? The bank of America is running with many financial services. “Through our banking and various non-banking subsidiaries throughout the United States and in selected international markets, we provide a diversified range of banking and nonbanking financial services and products through six business segments: Deposits, Global Card Services, Home Loans & Insurance, Global Commercial Banking, Global Banking & Markets and Global Wealth & Investment Management. Bank of America is a member of the Dow Jones Industrial Average” (Bank of America Corporation, n.d.). The major part of revenues comes from the deposits, global card services and home loan insurances. Around 44% of revenue earn by this segment. That may reach revenue of $ 49.4 billion. This investment mainly comes from the public people. Companies and institutional investors are contributing 35% of revenue that is the second largest cash contributor for the company. This is up to $ 39.4 billion of revenue. Conclusion: Bank of America has always maintained profits throughout the years, but in the year 2010 the profits of the bank has decreased and this has affected the bank negatively. The bank’s performance has been negative in the year 2010 and this is because of the firm’s decrease in total assets. The year 2011 has seen an increase in the profits and this has improved the business of the Bank of America. Bank of America has increased their financial goals and has reported a net increase in its assets in the year 2011. Therefore, to conclude, even though Bank of America’s financial performance in the years 2009 and 2010 was negative yet the bank shows positive profits in the year 2011 till date.
