3 April Lake Havasu Lake Havasu is a breathtaking reservoir located on the Colorado River. It is situated behind the Parker dam between Arizona and California. It is a very beautiful as well as useful water body on which the dam was constructed by the United States Bureau of Reclamation. The main objective of this lake, apart from providing a picturesque view to people, is water storage which is later pumped into two different aqueducts attached near it. It is a great place to go to on a family vacation because there is so much to do apart from looking at the scenery. Boating and fishing form an inherent part of Lake Havasu as most people go there in order to catch bass fish, however it is said that a large number of these fish died due to the construction of the dam and their movements along the water body. Despite this, some 3.5 million people visit Lake Havasu a year for not only its floral beauty but also the fauna in the form of fish. The waters are very clear and provide for great amount of fun while fishing and scouring for basses especially with other friends and family members. Small boats may be hired by people for the purpose of carrying out the activity privately, or people may even make groups with others and venture into the waters in larger ships. The world famous London bridge has been constructed on Lake Havasu as well which proved to be one of the main tourist attractions. The bridge is beautifully constructed with a number of arches for ships and boats to sail through. During the time of our visit, a number of fishing tournaments were also underway on the waters, making the atmosphere even more exciting. Most people were quite amazed at the sight of the splendour of the lake, not imagining it to be as wondrous as it actually was. The waters at Lake Havasu are crystal blue and the weather is quite breezy and nice all year round as well. The environment is very serene and calm and had a very cooling and positive effect on everyone present there. There are a number of activities that one can take up and do in this portion of Arizona, including outdoor excursions, planning camping trips, biking or hiking, doing a jeep tour of the entire area. Most people are also attracted by hot air balloon rides over the damn and Lake which are even more overwhelming than looking at the fresh waters of the water body from afar or the from the London Bridge. A large number of water sports including scuba diving, as well as aero sports like parasailing and sky diving are some of the other main attractions that have slowly come up in order to attract more tourism to this beautiful area. Most people are not aware about the awe inspiring view of Lake Havasu and thus have not ventured out, however once there; the impact of the cleanliness and purity within the environment and atmosphere that surrounds the entire place is enough to get the better of everyone. In modern culture, Lake Havasu is quite connected to the American roots. The London Bridge on Lake Havasu was purchased by an American entrepreneur by the name of Robert Paxton McCulloch, who literally founded the city of Lake Havasu and moved the bridge there in the 20th century. Thus, in actuality, the entire city around Lake Havasu that has begun to develop over the last few decades is because of the brainchild of this very entrepreneur and his big American dream of providing a pleasing scenic view to other people around the country. In the year 2007, this area around Havasu was also one of the top hundred places to live in, if one were residing in America. This is because of the kind of beauty the place possesses, and in comparison, no other region has the kind of varied climate like it does. The Lake Havasu City is almost arid with a breezy spell throughout the year, setting it apart from the dam and lake area which is full of a chill in the air around it. On travelling around the city, most people enjoyed the climate and surroundings thoroughly because it is a kind of place almost all kinds of people can enjoy. Mostly, it is filled by students from universities spending their breaks in the area because of the loveliness of the scenery all around, as well as the conducive climate and weather during the spring months especially. Over the years, channels like MTV have started hosting their annual spring break shows where students come together and take part in a number of events and celebrate spring break with one another. This also has helped to form a connection with the modern societal (consumerist) cultural impact that America has been going through for a long time. During winter, the weather becomes very dry and cold and the area has also been welcomed by frost and snow. The city side consists of small cafes and restaurants on the roads that are adorned by lush greenery all around. It is a pleasure to walk around within the city and take in all the natural beauty that persists in the environment. One can see a lot of young and old people relaxing all around the place, mostly on their vacation or breaks. An influx of the younger generation in the last few years has also helped to boost the image of the place in terms of its fast life. Despite growing about three fold in the last few years with respect to becoming a part of modern day culture for younger people, the city still contains the smell and feel of its lazy and slow but very loosened up aura. This is one of the main things that has helped to attract more and more people with time because who does not want to visit a place full of natural and scenic beauty coupled with the feel of relaxation? Therefore, Lake Havasu is one of the best places people can go to during their vacation time because the place has so much to do for almost all kinds of people and age groups. The entire place looks like something out of a calendar or poster; like some sort of a perfect image found somewhere on the internet of a beautiful lake and a small but wonderful city. It is definitely a must see for people looking out to take a break from their routine work lives. Moreover, the Lake is also a very inherent part of American culture, having been built literally by an American entrepreneur itself as discussed above. Thus, in this way it still retains a lot of attachment to the culture itself and makes the place emotionally warm for visitors belonging to the same nationality. It is quite connected to its past in a way that many people have visited it just to see the London bridge. It is full of rich history and a wonderful past and has been built on the lines of modern day culture and society. It is one of the places to visit before one dies, definitely, as suggested on a number of television travel shows. Anyone who visits the place will be able to document it beautifully with the help of words and photographs and they will be enough to help any individual set a sense of calm in his mind as well. The grandeur and simplicity of the place is enough to make anyone feel beautiful themselves – probably one of the main reasons why most people keep visiting Lake Havasu again and again during their free time.
