Possible Solutions to Global Warming Module or group Module Assessment Assignment ID number of submission Word count Table of Contents Introduction 3 Conclusion 7 Reference list 8 Introduction According to Bopp (2005), global warming can be defined as the increase in the standard temperature of the countries. Recently, the atmosphere of the globe increased due to various factors or actions of the people. Such issues are driving parallel transformation in the climate and in increasing greenhouse effects on environment and society. Global warming is caused by the humans as their daily life actions are responsible for emitting different types of greenhouse gases. In the contemporary era, ‘Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’ accepted that global warming is a double ended sword which occurs due to everyday lifestyle and evaluation of the technology or human civilisation (Altuntas, 2014). Industrialisation and transportation facilities are the potential sources of green house gases like carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and chlorofluorocarbons, which create higher green house effects on the environment (Climatehotmap.org, 2015). In this study, possible solutions of global warming will be highlighted. Firstly, industrial carbon emission needs to be controlled and secondly the renewable energy sources must be used to control the environmental degradation. Industrial and vehicle carbon emission controls will reduce the global warming factors directly. Renewable energy resources increase sustainable environment in the society. Industrial greenhouse gas emission reduction proved to be one of the most potential solutions to global warming. Industries and transportation system of the modern civilisation are the major sources of heat-trapping emissions in atmosphere. These particles are creating higher potentials of global warming. Emission of green house gases needs to be reduced in order to reduce temperature of earth. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are planning to introduce new and innovative technologies to develop realistic solutions (Union of Concerned Scientists, 2015a). Such technologies will be increasing the efficiency of using energy. Moreover, individuals or households are advised to reduce their ‘personal carbon emissions’ (Miller, 2008). For example, industrial zones of China reported with the highest green house gas emissions. Moreover, society members are required to use fuel-efficient vehicles in order to reduce petroleum or other non renewable fuel emissions (Pingoud, Ekholm and Savolainen, 2011). It has been observed that ‘The Clean Air Act requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’ are concerned in reducing air pollution particles. They are also created certain environmental safeguarding acts which are reducing carbon emission from the various operational factors (Srinivas, Rao and Raju, 2010). EPA aimed to reduce harmful particles on public wellbeing. They observed that the power generating industries are affecting the global environment. Power plants have to reduce the amount of dump of carbon pollution. Such firms are extracting carbon dioxide, which is the key driver of global warming factors. However, EPA has developed “new power plant carbon standards” in order to reduce carbon emissions of the power plants around the world. These will reduce the rate of 21.3% emissions from power stations and 16.8% emissions of manufacturing industries (Union of Concerned Scientists, 2015b). However, in the mass populated countries like China, India, Brazil and many Middle Eastern countries it is too tough to control the industrial and automotive carbon emissions. It has been observed that the people are using self own vehicles and numbers of cars, two wheelers and cargo transports are booming in these countries rapidly. Industrialisation is increasing in the developing and already developed countries. It increases the rate of green house gas emissions and potential global warming threats. Social bodies like the United Nations are using group of scientists in terms of outlining the measures of such reasons of global warming. IPCC worked for last one or two decades to shed light on the reasons of green house effects. It has been observed that daily activities of the humans are increasing of the emission of CO2 (carbon dioxide) (Climatehotmap.org, 2015). Civilisation is using various technologies, industrial segments and transportation rapidly. Fossil fuel burning is the major source of green house gases. Moreover, such actions are increasing or changing the temperature of the global atmosphere. Global fossil carbon emissions depend on the usage of petroleum, coal, natural gas and cement production (Gaughen, 2005). Global survey also highlighted that the fossil fuels like coal, oil or gas are the source of nearly 80% of global energy requirements. High energy demand is creating barrier in using alternative energy sources. Fossil fuels cannot be replaced in the short or medium tenure. Ignition of fossil fuels is highly recorded in cars, factories and electricity generator plants. Such actions are sourcing various green house gases, which are highly responsible for the global warming (Hackl and Pruckner, 2003). Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the major factor that increases global environmental temperature. CO2 is highly emitted green house gas in the contemporary human civilisation. In addition, landfills and agricultural aspects are increasing the emission of the methane. Such green house gas extracted from the grazing animal’s digestive systems. However, the agricultural system is using high end pesticides and fertilizers which extract nitrous oxide. Industrialisation and civilisation growth also reduces the greenery of the globe (Grover, 2008). Although the green house gas emissions from the industrial and transportation are tough to control, there are certain other solutions exist Tropical deforestation activities are increasing the heat-trapping emissions by 10 percent around the world. It is equivalent to yearly tailpipe emissions caused by nearly 600 million cars used in America (Jacob and Woodward, 2012). Thus, tropical deforestation needs to be reduced so that green house gas emissions can be reduced efficiently (Pingoud, Ekholm and Savolainen, 2011). Trees can compensate the fossil fuels emissions and it is the most effective long-term answer for the global warming. Moreover, plantation will maintain proper balance of the oxygen and other greenhouse gases (Miller, 2008). People need to use public transports more than their individual vehicles to reduce the potential carbon emissions. Therefore, it can be suggested that transportation fuel usage and requirement must be reduced (Pingoud, Ekholm and Savolainen, 2011). In addition, electronic cars and next generation fuel efficient cars must be used to reduce the fuel emissions. However, airplane flights travelling are the emerging sources of greenhouse gas emissions (Jayaraman, 2012). In the contemporary era, alternative energy resources like solar energy, tidal energy, windmill, hydraulic, and nuclear energy sources are used highly. It provides that sustainable environment for the future generation. “Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’ and ‘The Clean Air Act requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’ suggested that the renewable energy sources can to reduce carbon and green house gas emission which will offer to reduce the threats of global warming. The above-mentioned organisations are concentrating on reviving environmental sustainability. On the other hand, it has been observed that alternate energy resources are helping the firms to reduce deforestation. This segment can develop their operational strategies by using the renewable energies like solar, tidal, wind and hydro electricity in terms of reducing the carbon or other environmental degrading gas. These types of energy systems are cleaner as these sources do not use coal and other fossil fuels to produce energies. However, alternate energy resources increases cost of development and investment from the various organisational and institutional bodies (Hansen, 2001). It requires higher consciousness among country ministry and financial institutes. World Bank is aiding countries to increase alternative sources and developing environmental sustainability. In addition, exploration of the alternate energy sources is tough for the organisations. It is tough to explore the alternative energy sources in the developing countries like Bangladesh, South East Asian countries, Middle Eastern countries and African countries. Natural alternative resources are available in these areas but due to least efficient technologies, such sources remain unexplored. It has been observed that the United Nations and world bank is helping the different national governments with low interest loans for developing alternative power generation systems. In addition, people are concerned for their future generation and they are developing renewable energy sources (Grover, 2008). . Organisations are responsible for increasing energy efficiency and increasing green transportation. Industrial segment need to explore the renewable energy resources so that the dependency on the fossil fuel electricity will be avoided (Srinivas, Rao and Raju, 2010). Modern civilisation aims to maintain proper balance between forests and agriculture so that the deforestation related threats can be avoided. Nuclear energies are explored so that the chlorofluorocarbon related threats could be reduced. Moreover, low-carbon and zero-carbon machineries or technologies need to be used so that sustainable environmental development is possible (Pingoud, Ekholm and Savolainen, 2011). Conclusion From the study, it has been observed that the major greenhouse gases are impacting or creating global warming by their abilities of heat-trapping. It has been observed that fossil fuel burning creates more temperature in comparison with CO2. Methane particles create 20 times threat of global warming than CO2 elements. Therefore, Governing bodies, the United Nations and many other environmental sustainable authorities are increasing global warming solution strategies. Frameworks like carbon footprints, carbon credits, green marketing, gray import and many other strategies are used to minimise emission of the green house gas. Nitrous oxide and chlorofluorocarbons are controlled by these measures. Safeguarding of ozone layer will reduce the global temperature and heat-trapping potentials of those gases. Thus, recommended solutions can reduce the temperature of global environment. From the report, it can be said that both the solutions are effective. Reduction of carbon emission and use of renewable energy sources will help modern civilization to reduce global warming. Henceforth, it can be said the developed countries are using both the solution for reducing potential global warming factors. Reference list Altuntas, O., 2014.
