Reading response Values are akin to the normative trends that guide social interactions. These aim to promote cohesive societies as per ethical standards. Most philosophers explain the source of the values to the need for survival and the competition for the basic human needs such as food, shelter, and clothing. The competition that results in the scramble for the basic needs validated the need for a form of control to the aggressiveness of humanity. The societal values therefore form the basis for the development of the human values (Vilkka 45).

Religion is yet another source of such societal values which aims to pacify the interactions among humans in a society. The historical explanation of values therefor validates the investigation of the role of nature in the development of the values. Humans interact with nature on a daily basis yet they fail to recognize the role that nature plays in the development of the values. The author of the report thus seeks to investigate whether nature have an intrinsic value (Katz 12). Every other resource that humans use in their daily endeavors comes from nature including the basic wants.

This implies that nature is the most important element of human survival and must possess some intrinsic value on its own. Most philosophers do not investigate this thereby resulting to the subsequent ignorance on the natural values. The evolutionary history of man creates a close relation between man and nature since man is a product of nature and experiences nature every time. The feature therefore gives nature a basic value.
