The Storm in New Orleans - Essay Example

 While attending Livonia High School I had a very sad experience of being treated unfairly on the basis of my race. I was even called racist names by some of the fellow students. This was tearing me apart as I had never undergone such a nasty experience. At times, I used to feel very angry and started losing my temper. I felt like fighting with those students. The Peer pressure almost would have resulted in my doing something that I would have surely regretted later. I Prayed to GOD and asked him to control my temper and change the hearts of those who were treating me wrongly.

My prayers were answered and after some time those who treated me wrongly became my friends. This was indeed a very frightening, fearful, and furious experience for me. It all started with Hurricane Katrina, which damaged our house and some of our family members had to stay on rooftops for many days. I also came to know that there were some unfortunate ones who were drowned. I felt very depressed. I didn't want to eat, attend school. I used to stay in a room and just pray. During my Livonia stay, I met many new friends but I always felt like going home.

I was missing my parents, my home, friends, and school. I was always missing NEW ORLEANS. As a result of Hurricane Katrina, I developed a closer but special bond with my father and brother. I did not have such bonding before the storm and I thank GOD for this. One night while sitting in my room I heard the doorbell ring. It was my mother coming to take me back to my home in New Orleans. I was extremely happy because I was waiting for this very day. On my return, I realized that a lot of things have changed.

I remembered those words of wisdom, when the priest said, "Don't take anything for granted; don't treasure material things because they are here today and gone tomorrow. Nevertheless, I love New Orleans.
