Communication is the key to this. Thus, avoiding biases is very important in order for the leader to remain neutral to the issue and maintain objectivity. Put youself in the place of the subordinated to execute empathy. In this way, the issue will better be resolved and further conflict will be avoided. But it doesn’t end there, Army leader should also keep track of their progress that would later translate to the subordinate’s growth and individual stability. Empathic leaders sees to it that the soldiers are given proper training, equipment and all the support they need for them to accomplish their mission and for them to finish the battle alive.
At times of war, Leaders sees to it that they would share all the hardships that they already gone through before and successfully accomplished. Through this, the soldiers would be able to assess the realistic view of the plans that would therefore translate in carrying over the desired execution and output. Thus in worst scenarios, when fatality is already present in the battle, leaders should be quick enough to restore the full readiness of the organization. Handle with great empathy in the emotions of the soldiers as a support for further breakdown that might result to a weak morale and low spirit.
Family is the most basic unit of the community. This gives the families of the soldiers the most vital role in the success of every mission. They serve as the source of strength for these soldiers for they don’t only think of “how can I win this battle?” but there is more meaningful question at the back of their minds and that is “how can I be able to go home safely to my family and give glory to my country?” Being a soldier is like offering yourself to the people. Whether you know them or not, you serve them with all your life.
Its basically your pledge for the people your serving. Providing their needs and extending yourself to whatever the sitiuation may require. The urge to completely offer yourself is the driving force that will fuel the soldiers on delivering quality, efficient and effective service that would result for the betterment of your people. “To show empathy is to identify with another's feelings. It is to emotionally put yourself in the place of another. The ability to empathize is directly dependent on your ability to feel your own feelings and identify them” (EQI, n.d.).
As an Army Leader it is very important to extend an extra mile to be emphatic enough to his subordinates. Being a soldier is never an easy task. It requires complete commitment and confident decision making to offer service beyond one’s self for the benefit of others. This makes it more vital in the position of the leader because you are handling a large number of people of whom they themselves were also handling three folds of the number of people they are protecting and serving. The failure of the leader will take domino effect if not carried out successfully.
True enough emotional stability plays an important role in one’s army. You can have the best riffles in town, you can have the grandest canyons, you can have the most high tech helicopters, you can have the most intelligent heads but all of these will be of no sense if the soldiers are not stable emotionally.
