?Topic: Some aspect of society during the teenage years of a relative of your grandparents' generation Introduction: Older generation often argues that they have faced far more difficulties in their teenage as compared to the young generation today. Whereas, today’s generation believe that they have to go through various types’ complexities and difficulties in order to cope up with the current fast moving economy. Therefore, I decided to conduct my research on the topic “some aspect of society during the teenage years of a relative of your grandparent’s generation. Aims and Objectives: The aim of the research would be to find out the advantages and shortcomings that exist in both, grandparent’s generations and today’s young generation and in doing so achieve the following objectives: Find out the difficulties faced by both the generations Research Question: Do difficulties exist in both, the teenage period of our grandparent’s generation and young generation today? Documentary Sources: This research was conducted by me by interviewing two of my close relatives including my grandfather and one of my mother’s cousin’s mothers-in-law. The purpose of selecting these two sources included, to acquire first-hand information, my easy access to interview them and their experience and knowledge about the difficulties they had to face at their teenage. Summary: According to two of my relatives who were born in the year 1960s, young generation today is much more developed as compared to the ones born in grandparent’s generation. The major difference between the two generations is the expression of speech. Today, youngsters have comparatively more freedom to express their ideas as more information and knowledge is available to them. This is because in today’s society we are competing on the international level which why being informative and knowledgeable is essential. They further stated that, during their teenage years it was the period where they did not have the right or courage to openly put up their thoughts because of the fear of getting unemployed, getting into the prison and at times even of the fear of being murdered. Therefore, in order to remain protected and safe they preferred choosing the politically acceptable path. However, today youngsters are much more open to express their ideas through articles, internet and editorials internationally. It is due to the easy exchange of ideas that we are experiencing positive transformation and change in our current society. Youth today has the opportunity to attain the best possible education as the quality of education has improved drastically. There are unlimited amount of universities functioning throughout the world providing you the option to select the best for yourself. In addition to the advantages, they believe that there are also several shortcomings that are currently prevailing in the society including the existence of corruption in every type of field and profession, less confidence in achieving their goals successfully in future, fading traditions, lacking patriotism and national values. It has been seen that corruption exists in almost every profession whether it be teaching or police force. All respected professions too are involved in corruption and bribery. However, in our grandparent’s era corruption was very rare because people believed in the saying, “honesty is the best policy.” Therefore, every individual who was deserving and intelligent had the chance to be successful. Furthermore, they also believe that youth today do not have the confidence of being successful in future as competition has increased and people are unaware and confused about what they actually want to achieve. On the other hand, people in olden days were well-aware of their goals and studied accordingly to achieve them. The added advantage our grandparents had in their teenage was less amount of competition. Past traditions are gradually diminishing due to which majority older population today are jobless and are treated as an unwanted burden in this society. This results in increased number of deaths today. In other words traditions are fading with time as in past the trend was to provide knowledge and information from grandparent to parents and further to children. But today this trend has completely changed and most individuals are exploring and introducing their own practices and reinventing the older ones. Youth today are not aware of the history and our national heroes. Earlier, this education was made compulsory in schools but today there are very few educational institutions providing such knowledge, thus leading to lack of patriotism and national values in our youngsters. Conclusion In my opinion, both the systems are pole apart. In our grandparent’s generation the society was completely based on idealism. People followed the rules they were told to like, “Honesty is the best policy”, “Education must be free” etc. But, today attitudes of youngsters towards people, life and work have changed. The focus today is more towards efficiently and smartly competing without realizing how it can affect the society as a whole. Therefore, in my view, difficulties exist in both the generations. If young generation in olden times faced the difficulty of the limited amount of opportunities available to them, youngsters today in spite of having a lot of opportunities available, increased competition worldwide is making it difficult for them to avail. Earlier, there was not much scope for education as there were very few education institutions but today the youngsters although have vast amount of opportunities available to acquire the best education but at the same time the financial difficulties have also increased. Last but not the least; due to the increase in corruption today most of the deserving individuals are jobless. Future Sampling plan In order to conduct a detailed research on this topic I will be interviewing more individuals belonging to my grandparent’s generation. In doing this, I will be collecting primary data through communication. Communication will include asking questions to the respondents both, verbally and in writing. Through this research method, there is a possibility that some common errors might occur like, people providing vague information during the interview process due to unclear understanding of the topic, and also by intentionally providing false information by lying or not replying to the questions asked to them.
