How I Shaped My Language and Way of Communication

Where do I live? How does the area around assist me to shape my language and communication skills? I was raised in Al Ain, a city in the United Arab Emirates. I lived in a small town compared to Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Unlike the big cities, Al Ain was subdivided into small districts such that individuals who had similar last name would live in the same area or close to one another. The arrangement compelled me to grow up together with my extended family, as well as, my close friends who we shared the same last name. All these people, I grew up around them encouraged me to shape my language and way of communicating. The paper will focus on discussing how as a member of United Arabs Emirate society after having a trip to Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs helped to change my language and way of communicating and how religious and family gatherings and charity organizations enables one to shape their style.

Before I visited Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs, I hardly communicated with people who were not members of my family. I always thought that I was going to live in isolation. Hence, I never cared to have friends from outside my family. Since I was a shy person, I preferred staying at home when I was not at school to work on my homework. Everything seemed great since my cousins used to attend the same school that I attended thus I did not feel the need of making new friends especially those who are not from my extended family. We used to attend school together, play soccer, and video games, and go to the stadium and hang out along with my family members. For many years, I did not think that one day I would have friends who were not part of my extended family. However, this mentality changed when my school administration asked us to get prepared for a trip to visit Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs. According to Gaad (5), Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs is an organization which offers educational, therapeutic and rehabilitation services meant to support people with special needs through the use of best international applies integrated in the rehabilitation and care field.

When the day set for the trip came, things happened that supported me to change my language and way of communicating with individuals. During the entire trip, I was much delighted in that I could not remain silent. I decided to interact with new friends who were not from my extended family, something I never saw coming. I tried my best to talk to the new friends during my trip. I thought that by remaining quiet during the journey, other people in the tour were likely to misunderstand me. When we arrived at Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs, I spoke to the people in the organizations receiving diverse needs for more than two hours. Additionally, I shared my lunch with new friends that I met from the team. The old people we came across lived in the Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs started talking to us and further explained different situations in their lives which made them join the organization. During this time, I felt it was the perfect time for me to start boosting my way of communicating to people as well as my language by asking questions. The activity was my first time to have a conversation with someone who was not a member of my extended family. In the process of asking questions, I gathered much courage, and it encouraged me to overcome the nervousness I was hiding for many years. I learned much from them, and I found that the people from the organization were very respectful. As a result, the communication exercise motivated me to schedule regular visits to the organization either once per week or once in every two weeks as I felt very comfortable in interacting with people in the group because I learned numerous new things.

There are various things which I learned from the old people in the organization who much helped me to enjoy my visit in the group. When I began to spend time with the older adults at the organization, they gave me valuable advice on fascinating books they wanted me to read. The older adults focused mainly on the history books. The main reason for them to focus on the history books is that they found them attractive since they taught about the old empires, scientists and crucial interventions across the world such as the eyeglass and camera. Those books explained why someone would need to invest in these responses. Besides, learning from the older adults gave me encouragement in figuring out new things and learn more about them. When I observed the different ways of interacting used by the people from the organization, I noted how they were close to one another as they were concerned about each other. Similarly, they told me their secret which revolved around how they lived together in harmony as one family even though they were not relatives. They also said that I should understand that whenever I assisted the seniors and those people who have different disabilities, they could never forget irrespective of whether I remembered if I supported them or otherwise.

At the end of the tour, I reflected on other ways which could assist me in shaping my language and improving my method of communication. I thought of how any celebrations people were engaged in and how they could be of great help to me. Among the parties I identified which involves the gathering of people from different backgrounds include, religious celebrations, family gathering, and charity meant for assisting people. I found a spiritual congregation to be much significant in that during religious ceremonies, people have the chance of talking as well as interacting as they make social connections with other people who are not members of their family. The religious gathering would be a suitable way of enhancing my language and style of communicating with people. Since I learned several skills of shaping my tongue as I interacted with the old people from the school trip, I was sure that I would emphasize on them during the religious gathering I would attend. Similarly, participating in charity aimed at helping people would give me the opportunity of shaping my language as I would communicate to different people who are not members of my extended family. It would also give me the privilege of interacting with people from different social classes. The charities are regularly visited by wealthy people who come to the charity organization to donate food, money, and the house needs to the poor people who require help. Helping others gives one a chance of interacting with people from different family backgrounds. Participating in charity organization will not only enhance my language and way of communicating with people, but it will also enable me in becoming a social person.

Consequently, it is essential for every person to change their way of communicating if they are shy. Interacting with many people from different family backgrounds is of great importance as it assists one to improve their way of expressing and shaping their language. Through the process, I have received great help since I visited Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs which gave me an opportunity to develop my language and way of communicating through talking to the older adults. Before visited the organization, I was a modest person, but after interacting with the older adults and asking them questions, it changed me to a more socially person who never liked staying alone. Some of the practices that can significantly enhance a person’s way of communicating and shaping their language include, attending religious gatherings, participating in charity activities and attending family gatherings. These practices aid in developing the style of a person since they provide an opportunity for interacting with different people from various social classes.
