A tale of two killings: what happens when Idaho police shot a dog and a pregnant woman in one day “A tale of two killings: what happen when Idaho police shot a dog and a pregnant woman in one day” featured in guardian and authored by Paul Lewis, narrates how Idaho county police executed a pregnant woman alongside a dog. This matter, as the story explains, occurred in two different locations fifty miles apart. The writer introduces the report by first narrating the events that led to the shooting of the pregnant woman. He explains that, the woman, named as Jeanetta Riley aged 35 years was a drug junkie and an alcoholic.
On the fateful day, she and her 44 year old husband had been having quarrels as they indulgedin their day to day drug abuse and drinking. That day however, the quarrels were heightened on this particular day. After dropping their 13 year old daughter at her step father’s house, the couple returned to their camp site while she purchased a bottle of vodka along the way. She indulged herself with the bottle of vodka by drinking half of it hence becoming rowdy and extremely disorderly.
She started continually threatening to kill herself while brandishing a three and a half inch fillet knife. Her husband, fearing for his life, rushed to an emergency room asking for help while explaining the misfortune that was befalling him. The nurse at the report desk quickly pushed the panic button prompting the local police. Two officers arrived almost immediately to contain the drunken lady who had become chaotic and a threat to people around her. The police officers were armed with guns in preparation to dealing with the threat at hand. After numerous calls failed for Jeanetta to drop her weapon, the police officers finally shot at her. The shots fired hit Jeanetta killing her instantly on the spot. The writer continues further to compare this incident to another shooting that led to the killing of a harmless pet dog.
The incident occurring not so far from Jeanetta’s shooting location sparked a nation-wide uproar on police inhumane killing of dogs in a campaign by the name “justice for Arfee”. Arfee was the dog’s name. As the writer reports, the incident occurred outside a coffee shop where the owner had halted when coming from the lake. The dog’s owner parked outside the coffee house and got into the shop to have some coffee. He was informed by a girl who came running up into the shop claiming they (the police) had shot the dog and taken it away.
The man narrates that he rushed out only to find his van covered in blood. Having reared the dog since he was a puppy, the man known as Jones, was upset and immediately alerted the media via social sites of what had befallen his dog. The police on the other hand, narrated that they acted upon calls that a van was suspiciously following children around and this made them want to know what the matter was really. In the process, the officer claims that he shot the dog on terms of self-defence when he thought the dog was attacking him.
