The club population The night club population Everyone is a fan of having some time out with friends and letting a bit of steam off, as well as coming up with many memories which are not so clear, in order to recall the following day over a cup of coffee. However, there are persons who find the nightclub as their natural habitat and their watering hole. One among the best things about being a student is the celebration of all the hard work put into studies and hence going for outings to celebrate or to party. However, if you get yourself into a nightclub, there is an assurance that you can bump into several different types of people that can ruin for you the good vibes you have. These persons can come in varying sizes and shapes, but they all annoy in different ways. These persons can be classified in various groups, but there are 9 types of people that you can’t miss in every exclusive nightclub. They include: The hopeless wanderer, Dance floor diva, DJ botherer, Mr. Rockefeller, Kangaroo, photo bomber, creeper, Mr. Gym Selfie and minesweeper (Ferreira, 2008: 23). The hopeless wanderer pre-gamed a little harder and on arrival to the club, has separated ways with the group he came with and is thus wandering around aimlessly and stumbling from one table to another trying to catch up with his friend or trying to find a girl he can latch onto for the remaining part of the night. Such guys can be fun messing with because they are all the time up for purchasing more drinks, thus one can take the risk of helping them to the bar in order to get a free drink but if he remembers the look of your face, he can keep following you around all night (Tim, 2010: 56). The second category is the dance-floor diva. This is the guy that is way too honest and seriously thinking that his limbs are under his full control and 100% believes that he befits the title “best dancer” in the whole universe. He will thus strive to challenge anyone that is willing to come to a dance-off. He is also the most sober as compared to all the drunken fools inside the bar. This guy gets so into music and thus the energy can then keep him going for long hours. He’s likely to grab and pull you onto the floor of the dance and serenade you although sometimes he can grind with you until you make out together or run away. It is better to be a fool by running away than to go this far with him (Tim, 2010: 33). The DJ botherer is the third type of person you cannot miss in a nightclub. This person can be further sub-divided into two differing sub-categories. The first sub-category is the Sober DJ botherer who’s just chilling out with a few friends, but thinks he is far better than most other people in the club or bar and so he goes across and stands over the DJ booth and is constantly requesting for the kind of music that he wants to listen to getting played. The second kind is the drunken type, who gets slumped against the booth of the DJ and requests for 80’s dance songs. When these are eventually played, he assembles all his energy in order to dance off his heart to a Footloose and may only return to the booth of the DJ to rest until his ‘favorite’ is played (Tim, 2010: 43). Additionally, Mr. Rockefeller is another fellow you can always spot in a night club. This is the kind that thinks he is a big shot just because he recently got the first payment cheque and thus wants to blow it up all within the first night. It is good to hang around such a guy during the start of the night since he’s usually pre-gamed on much liquor, which will hit him while halfway into the night hence making him lose his inhibitions. Normally, he would at first walk into the club and buy drinks for everyone around him. One can make the most out of the situation because he will soon run out of cash. Therefore, the sooner you get a hold of your drink, run away from him because when he runs out of cash, he will be asking people to return the favor later on (Tim, 2010: 36). Furthermore, the kangaroo guy is jumping up and down constantly, regardless, of the amount of drinks he’s had. It is probable that he could have had only 5 shots of tequila and a beer case and will be in the middle of the floor just jumping up and about for long hours, on the other hand, he could have had a couple of Smirnoff ice and buzzing from the much energy he has and thus you find him hoping around the club, while looking for someone to hop with. Such people can be damn annoying or really fun because they normally have on their face such a stupid grin and easily get excited by small things. These guys can however be fun for girls to hang around them though with care since they may get into the kangaroo energy and become a kangaroo too (Tim, 2010: 16). In addition, the photo bomber is a classic model in any nightclub. For many girls, it is common to spend several hours dressing up, doing their hair and make-up as well as taking a lifetime to decide what to wear. All this is for the fact that many girls go out to take several handfuls of photos. They scowl through clubs looking for those people who are in opposition to take a photograph and in the last minute, they jump into the air with their widespread arms and hanging tongue across the face. The photo is thus ruined and for the photo bombers, the night is complete (Tim, 2010: 86). Additionally, one other strange lot is the creeper. This guy is scary because he spends nights alone while just sitting and watching everything happen at the bar. He normally waits to see a girl stumble into the bar and then offers to purchase a drink for them. Of course, they aren’t going to turn the offer down, and in his mind, this for him comes as a permission to go after her all night. The creeper then awaits the perfect moment to strike, for instance, if one leaves the club unaccompanied, then they can rest assured that this creeper will then follow you outside insisting to walk home or offers to share a cab with your home. It is recommended that one goes back inside to take another shot in order to avoid such a guy (Tim, 2010: 26). The 8th kind of person you can always pump into a nightclub setting is Mr. Gym Selfie, who has many instant followers. He uploads a photo every weekend that says “last minute session before hitting the bar tonight”. He then walks into the bar while thinking that he can get any girls that he wants. The problem with such guys is that it takes much for them to get drunk as soon as it hits them; the blow is hard on them. These people are heavy drinkers during the period of pre-game and thus find themselves hitting the limit after only an hour in the bar. This leads to other scenes; First of all, they become blackout drunk or secondly become aggressive and may even pick a fight with a leg of a table if it looked fun at him. It is better to avoid them when they get into such a stage (Tim, 2010: 77). The last one is the mine sweeper, who is the sneakiest person of all. Normally, those students who go out on a budget will always try to mines weep. However, they eventually get caught. Such guys come with specific intentions of stealing other people’s drinks. Their cunning and clever nature causes them to get into the club in a sober state, but get drunk from stealing the drinks of other people. A good way to avoid your drink from being stolen is by holding it constantly or just purchasing shots (Tim, 2010: 12).You have to finish your drink if you have to go into the bathroom or leave it with a trusted friend and ensure he or she holds it for you until you come back. In conclusion, there are several types of people you can find in a nightclub, but the 9 types I have described in the paragraphs above typically shows a summary of the kinds of people you can find in an exclusive nightclub. From these paragraphs it is clear that, each of the persons described go into a nightclub with varying intentions. Some of them want to show off and be noticed; others want to steal other people’s drinks while others aim at finding someone to make out within the night. It is thus paramount to be careful when at the club and at least stick to the company of trustworthy friends, in and out of the nightclub, to be on the safe side. References Ferreira, P.P.
