Nurses take care of persons of all age, communities and groups. Nurses help to improve the health of persons and facilitate them in preventing illness. Nurses participate in shaping up health management system and health policies. Education level plays a significant role for delivering efficient service by the nurses. If a person is willing to take care of other people by protecting them from illness and sufferings through medical treatment, care etc., that person must choose nursing as his or her career. The main objective of nursing is to use the knowledge of clinical judgment for providing care to people and to make them able in reducing their health problem. A nurse closely works with the patient for making him fit and fine. Nursing is of different types. Public Health Nurse and Hospice Nurse are two types of nursing which have become popular in the recent time. A Public Health nurse performs her nursing duties in a community for improving the health of the people residing in the community. Public Health nurses develop plans for reducing diseases in the community. This type of nurse also helps the community during the time of natural disaster. The registered nurses are known as hospice nurses. They usually take care of critical patients. Hospice nurses work closely with the patients and different health care professionals. They also provide emotional support to the employees for helping them to fight against diseases. Debbie Rowe, Rachel Robinson, Faye Wattleton are some of the famous nurses of the present time. Nursing career has developed a lot with time. With the advancement of medical science several specialized careers of nursing have been developed. The specialized careers are Anesthetist nurse, psychiatric nurse, nurse researcher, certified nurse midwife, pediatric endocrinology nurse, orthopedic nurse, nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, gerontological practitioner and neonatal nurses. These types of specialized nursing services help to cure many critical diseases. Now a day’s with the help of modernized and efficient nursing service a patient is cured at a very faster rate. Nursing service has become a very important part of the medical treatment. Body History of career fields Nurses take care of people for a long period of time. With the change of medical science the nursing career has become very advanced. Initially only women were involved in nursing but slowly many men were involved in this service. In the present scenario nursing profession has become very important profession in health care industry. In the ancient time the concept of nursing career involved in taking care of sick people. The nurses assisted the patients to become fit and healthy. Other than doctors the nurses also guided the patient for making them cure. Proper nursing helps the patient to become well quickly. With the creation of hospitals nursing career became more popular. From a very early age the practice of public health nurse and hospice nurse were present in the societies. Many religious institutions kept nurses for providing medical service to different communities. During the time of any natural disaster or disease the religious institutions took care of common people with the help of nurses. With the development of different hospitals, the religious institutions send many nurses to the hospitals for providing better care to the patients. For this purpose nurses were sent to various places of the world. The concept of hospice nurses was developed from this. The nurses, who were sent from the religious institutions, started taking care of specific type of patients and became specialized on that. They were provided training by the hospital which made them more efficient. The service of nursing became very popular after 11th century. Many nurses travelled to different parts of the world for taking care of critical patients. The concept of modern nursing was introduced by Florence Nightingale. She contributed a lot in changing the nursing profession. In ancient days the career of public health nurse was very popular. Many European nurses took care of the soldiers for performing the duties of public health nurse. Gradually the public health nursing developed a lot and it combined public health principles with nursing. Public health nursing became a specialized form of nursing with registered nurse. District model of nursing was developed in U.S. The graduated nurses took care of sick people in their places. Slowly various associations were involved in providing treatment and care to the patients through public nurses. These association help poor sick people in fighting with different diseases. Presently public health nursing is practiced by various volunteer agencies who are concerned with the health of people. Hospice nursing was developed from medieval time. The type of nursing which provided specialized care to the critical patients is known as Hospice nursing. With the development of different hospital Hospice nursing became very popular. Different types of patients are admitted in the hospitals and they required special type of care to the patients. For this reason various nursing schools were developed for making the nurses capable enough to deal with various critical patients. Comparison of Community Health Nursing and Hospice Nurse Community or public health nursing and Hospice nursing are the two major types of nursing that are practiced by the people in developing their career in nursing industry. These two types of nursing aim to provide care to the patient but they are different from each other in several aspects. The duty and responsibilities of community health nurses is to provide care to the people living in a community for improving the health issues and condition of the people residing in the community (Auerbach 1470-1471). Communal or social development is the main objective of the nurses working for community. The nurses of community health look after the people with the help of multiple settings. Some nurses also take care of the home and family members of the patient. Strong emotional support is provided by the community health nurses. This type of nurses helps to develop a proper environment which facilitates people in living healthy life. On the other hand Hospice nurses provide specialized nursing service to the patient according to their diseases and needs. The hospice nurses choose their career as per their interest and skills in nursing. Different types of specialized nursing services are present which helps to do treatment of particular types of patients. Hospice nurses are the registered nurses who work in different hospitals. On the contrary the community health nurses work with different associations, religious institution etc. Community health nurses tend to serve a particular community or a group of people. Cultural diversity of patients affects the performances of this type of nurse negatively. Public or community health nurse do not have the behavior through which they can treat patients of different cultures equally. But the hospice nurses cannot differentiate the patients on the basis of their culture. While taking care of different types of patients the hospice nurses have to behave equally with all the patients’ irrespective of their culture, origin, community etc. Personal setting of the patients is done by hospice nurse whereas the community health nurses take care of the patient by setting up clinic settings (Auerbach 1471-1472). By serving a community for a long period of time the community health nurses develop a strong and long term relationship with the people. In many cases it has been observed that hospice nurses are very much competent than community health nurses in taking care of the patients properly. A person can become a community health nurse by completing a degree of nursing. But for becoming hospice nurse a person needs to have a degree of nursing and along with that a specialized degree of specific type of nursing. The career of hospice nursing provides huge growth opportunities. The specialized form of nursing is very much popular in medical science. For this reason, people tend to take hospice nursing as their career. But the people who are interest to serve a community or group of people and want to make it as they career then community healthy nursing will the appropriate job for them. The future of the career Nursing service in different countries is changing a lot with the improvement of medical science. Healthcare industry is developing a lot with the help of advanced technology and modern facilities. Increasing number of diseases and their complexities create various opportunities for the nurses to growth their career at a faster rate. Different specialized forms of nursing have developing for providing better service to the patients (Meier 343-348). With the growing importance of nursing service the huge number of nursing schools and educations institute will be developed for benefits the student who want to pursue nursing as their career. This will facilitate the students in having proper knowledge about the subject in detailed way. The future growth of nursing also depends on the growth and development of medical facilities and services. Based on this facility and services, various specializations are developed in nursing. In the present time medical science is developing a lot (Hellesø 53-55). This will facilitate the nurses in developing the career of the nurses easily. Now a day, people have become very conscious for protecting community and the society. For this reason many more associations and institutions will form for protect and helping common people from different problems and diseases. This will create a huge opportunity for the nurses who want to work for community. By delivering efficient service to the patient by providing enough care to them will help the nurses to become well known within a short period of time. With the development of nursing education the community health nurses can purser different other degree of nursing while continuing their service with any association. In future the associations will educate and train people in developing healthy habits where the nurses will play a vital role in teaching common people (Meier 315-319). A certified and registered hospice nurse will get many growth opportunities in their career. With their skills and knowledge they can enjoy high salaries. If a hospice nurse working in an organization performs her duties and responsibilities efficiently then she can be promoted to high level jobs or administrative jobs of nursing. A hospice nurse can become the director of nursing service with high quality of experience. Many famous medical institutes will improve their specialized course which will benefit the hospice nurses in enhancing their skills and knowledge (Hellesø 73-77). Changes might occur in the future It is expected that many changes can occur in future in the nursing industry which will affect different types of nursing careers. Medical science and treatment is improving day by day with the advancement of science and technology. In coming few years it will develop more. Educational process of nursing service can be changes. More practical and real time incidents will be focused more while providing training to the nurses. This will improve the quality of service of the nurses (Auerbach 1470- 1472). Psychological training will be provided to the nurses who will involve in community health nursing. This psychological training will help the nurses to treat the patients equally and to understand their mind set for making them cure within a short span of time. Quality and type of service provided by the public health nurse will be monitored by any experienced professional and on the basis of that nurses will be promoted. Various nursing programs will be performed by the associations which will help the nurses in showing of their nursing skills and techniques to the world (Hellesø 86-89). By this process the nurses can prove their efficiency level and their dedication towards work. Many new types service will be developed in hospice nursing. Along with providing physical care to the patients the hospice nurses will provide mental support to the patients for making their treatment procedure more effective. In future the career of the hospice nurses will become more challenging (Meier 304-309). Hospice nurses can draw good amount of salary which will attract many people in studying hospice nursing. Nurses will use different advanced technologies for making the patients cure. Therefore for building career in hospice nursing a person needs to have good technical and medical knowledge (Hellesø 36-41). Conclusion This paper highlighted community or public health nursing and hospice nursing in details. The nursing service has become very popular day by day. For this reasons many students many students wants to pursue their career in nursing. But different types of nursing career are present which have various growth opportunities. Community health nursing and hospice nursing are two different types of nursing careers. Both of these nursing practices have developed long back. But with the change of time various improvements took place in these nursing services. This paper highlights that these two types of nursing services have same goals but there processes of taking care of patients differ from each other. This paper focused on the fact that hospice nurse needs to have specialized knowledge and skills for taking care of patient. They are also known as specialized nurse. Community health nurse needs to have general knowledge of nursing for taking care of people residing in a community. With the improvement of medical science and technology the growth opportunities of these nursing careers are increasing a lot. The paper focuses on the issue that for developing career in hospice nursing a person needs to have basic nursing knowledge along with specialized nursing knowledge. Developing career in hospice nursing will be better for a person who wants to provide high quality of service to the patients with their specialized knowledge. Moreover the hospice nurses are associated with medical institution which helps them to know and learn various modern things related to medical treatment and nursing. In a proper medical institution the growth opportunities of the hospice nurses is more that community health nurses. The history of nursing career is highlighted in this paper. In future it is expected that nursing service will change a lot and it will improve different types of nursing service.
