23rd June The Middle Ground Method of Argumentation The essay written previously was about mandatory drug testing which was necessitated by availability of drugs that leads to their misuse or abuse. The problems associated with drug use call for serious consideration of drug testing in schools, workplaces and prisons. However this could be viewed as discriminatory especially due to stigmatization that follows victims of drug abuse. The mandatory drug tests could also yield incorrect result, as they are not 100% accurate, and thus lead to unfair treatment of a said drug abuse victim.
When the advantages of drug testing, especially in work places is considered, they are not fairly comparable with the disadvantages (Flores) .The topic in the essay could have been approached in a middle ground argument approach. This would have involved considering both the advantages and disadvantages of mandatory drug testing and settling on middle ground where no side gets it all but each side gets something (Anonymous). This would have necessitated a change of the claim from mandatory drug testing having adverse effects to there being a confidentiality mechanism for the results of drug tests (Anonymous).
This middle ground solution would have taken care of stigmatization which is one of the disadvantages of mandatory drug testing and it will allow for testing in favor of the group in support. Additional sources will be needed so as to assist in research of the confidentiality method that can be used to make the middle ground solution a success. Proper application of this middle ground solution would be a success as far as mandatory drug testing is concerned. ReferencesAnonymous. "Using the Middle Ground Method of Argumentation.
